Head gasket choice poll! Is it true Cometics leak a lot? I did some searching through posts but the results seem some do, some don't and im wondering what causes them to leak on some cars and other cars they fit great. Mike |
Felpros are Junk for the LS1 market in my opinion. Every car we do head swaps on we use stock. Its a MLS gasket which is awsome. I was hitting 250-300 on my stock gasket with no problems. I am stepping the can up this year so I might go with Cometics, but plan on blowing some other then the gasket when you use a cometic. |
FEL pro sucks donkey balls... i sprayed my 200 shot and blew the head gasket 3 days after... GM 6.0 MLS gaskets FTW, been spraying countless 200's and no leaking or seaping problems at all. |
The factory MLS is hard to beat. Once you stray from stock the Fel Pro MLS is very nice as well as the Cometic. Cometic offers special bore size and thickness with additional lead time. Kurt |

good poll. I am also looking for new gaskets. I have 6.0 mls's but want something thinner but don't want to deal with the chance of leaks. What will the stock graphite ones hold? |
5.7 MLS GM LS1 replacements FTW |
cometics are good, as long as you add about 10-15 more ft. lbs. to your final trq spec. |
I cast my vote for GM MLS gaskets too. Though if you really want to tighten up your quench, Mr gasket has some .042s for dirt cheap. My buddy is running those without issue. |
cometics all the way. ive pulled my heads off numerous times and reused the same cometics and never had any leaks |
GM MLS for security against leaks Cometic for tighter quench and if you are really going to do a great job in the prep and your heads are shaved properly. |
I'm using the SCE Titan ICS'. They're copper, have double sided silicone around water holes, and feature wire rings around the chamber for better high pressure sealing. $189 though!!! |
GM MLS, spend the $$ on ARP studs |
I also am in the market for new gaskets, and I understand that the GM MLS gaskets are a solid, proven setup, but what if you want to tighten the quench with a thinner gasket? What's the best choice then, from what I've read most people say cometic? |
all GM MLS here! |
are the stock gaskets the MLS? any GM part numbers what about lowering the compression some, what gaskets for that ? |
F body LS1s were not MLS, i dont know if they put them on GTOs or not but probably not. if you go into a GM dealership now and say you want headgaskets for your LS1, they will give you MLS ones |

I blew 2 FelPro gaskets with in a few days of each other about 6 months ago. Stock MLS or Cometic is the way to go. |
Was it the performance MLS gasket? We have used them a few times with great results. Never over 1400hp yet, but soon. Kurt
