LS6 Heads on a 2002 Trans Am?
How much would this cost? Is it worth it? What kind of gains would I see? I also would most likely be adding a 224 cam or B1. Please reply!! <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0">

Re: LS6 Heads on a 2002 Trans Am?
I at one point wanted ported LS6 heads and when I read an article in GMHTP (May 2001 issue, "Head North, Young Man") I am glad I didn't get LS6 heads.
Agostino Racing Engines (ARE) did all the testing on a stock displacement motor:
1. Yes, a stock LS6 head will outflow a stock LS1 head at all lifts.
2. A properly ported LS1 head will outflow a stock LS6 head at all lifts.
3. A ported LS6 head will outflow a ported LS1 head at lifts above .450". The data shows that the ported LS1 head did outflow the LS6 head at lifts below .450".
I don't know the current pricing on LS6 heads, but when I was looking into getting ported LS6 heads the price difference was around $1300 more that the ported LS1 heads.
On their test car, the ported LS1 head on the LS6 intake manifold (which you have already) made 423 HP and 405 TQ. The ported LS6 head on the LS6 manifold made 435 HP and 416 TQ.
Is 12 HP and 11 TQ worth $1300? To some it is, but to me it wasn't.
I know that the article is somewhat old and I would be interested to hear from Nick Agostino for any updates that may change his original conclusions.

I agree with the comment above. Very pricey swap for very limited gains....I looked into it for my 98 WS6, as I had access to the center bolt covers and coil packs. Just wasn't worth it.

Re: LS6 Heads on a 2002 Trans Am?
The logic of the article can be misleading. If you can get a deal on the LS6 heads, like assembled heads for $1k, you are way ahead of the game. The stock LS6 heads flow better than any $1k port job you can get. Then sell your stock heads if you're on a budget.
I suppose everyone has seen the $1k/pr deal listed on corevetteforum.com
