Default SLP #51013 Cam 234/228 .576/.571 113LSA

Hi everyone,

Was wondering if anyone here is running this cam and how do you like it?

It was highly recommended cam in the "How To build HP Chevy LS1/LS6 V8's" Book.

Would I not be taking full advantage of my FAST 90/Holley 90 and Patriot CNC LS6 heads?

I am looking into installing this into my '98 WS6 (has an '01 LS1 motor) M6.

Looking to be a streetable, daily driver. Hope to hear a lope just to get a hint it ain't stock yet keep my creature comforts such as a/c and power brakes.

Also looking to add at least 100+ hp with the h/c/90/90

Listening to the ls1sounds soundboard and I definitely like the sound of a 112 LSA cam, but worried if won't be good as daily driver and lose a lot of low end torque.

Please post your inputs. All would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Gil

i'm no expert on cams but i run a 230/224 .i have been told that the reverse split cams are for restrictive intakes.i would guess your setup would probably like a traditional split.try calling a couple of sponsors and see what they think.good luck

no experience with that cam, but with those specs you are definitely going to know its in there. Probably makes good power. I'd be interested to see what lobe design they use.....

Reverse split with a 90/90 setup? That's the first time I've heard of that. Subscribing to see where this one goes.

I say go with a more traditional cam with the fast 90/90 and ls6 heads, say like a torquer v2 or a 228/228 cam. Streetable is a relative term. If you click the link in my sig you can hear my 232/238 cam. Idles very well but the lope is very noticable and sounds mean as hell. If you want real quiet but still good power go with a 224/224 cam.

thats a reverse split that will make the most out of a restrictive top end such as stock intake & heads...which u dont have...i would go with a traditional split for ex. 230/236..

Thanks for the input everyone! Much appreciated!

Ok, I am learning now. reverse split would be a no-no for the 90/90 set-up and CNC LS6 heads...got it, thanks!

N4cer, that cam in your car sounds sweet (especially since you have the same exhaust as I do).
I really love the sound/chop of the 112 LSA, but two things worry me...
Is it ok in traffic with a/c on and the power brakes?
And did your fuel mileage get totally killed? I by no means am looking to have a 27MPG car (currently I see 18/19mpg). But was it a HUGE difference in fuel economy?

Thanks!

I was taking a close look at the V2 cam, since I see many people recommend it. I was undecided on the choice for the LSA 112,113, 114.

Totally understand about the meaning of "streetable" different for everyone.
I am no stranger to a nice chop in the idle. I have a '71 Cuda with a 360/390hp crate magnum motor. It has a roller cam with a 288/292 .501/,513
Totally streetable, has 12" vacuum which is enough to keep my power brakes.

I am all for the tough sound of a 112 LSA as long as the low end does not suffer much (my TA is an M6).

BTW, Love the sound of your Camaro as well... Your sig says sold, sorry to read that...
How was your fuel economy on your camaro when you had that cam?

Thanks,

Gil

Thanks for the compliments. I get no issues with the A/C and brakes whatsoever. I'm actually surprised that you're so worried about that, since it's never been an issue for me.

Also, I still get 15-18mpg in mixed driving.

N4cer!

Thanks for that post! A 112LSA it is! Glad to read all is not lost with a choppy cam.
This is going to be my first EFI car I would install a radical cam and tuning. I just did not want to create an uncomfortable daily driver.

Glad to see fuel mileage is not all that bad.

Thanks again!

Yea unfortunately I sold it because I wanted to put as much of a down-payment on the house im buying this June, but I changed finance companies and am now working directly with hedge fund trading and almost doubled my pay so I am kickign myself now for selling it but I will be in another lsx powered vehicle (f-body/gto/vette) soon enough. The car sounded awesome and at idle you can hear it was just plain mean. My fuel economy didnt change that much highway driving but around town it was probably down a few MPG, nothing major though. It all depends on how you drive it. I usually stayed below 4000K rpms daily driving it, but if I wound it out and took it to 6K my tank would be gone much sooner. As for the power my car put down my 98 heads killed me as they are the worst flowing head of any year. Another guy had the same custom ground cam put in but had tsp prc ls6 heads and with the same mods as me (headers/ory/magnaflow/pulley/ls6 intake/ported tb) he put down 424 rwhp, so there was definately a lot of power left on the table. Id suggest the toruqer v2 if you want something fairly similar to the sound of the cam in my sig on a 112lsa. Other good cams are the g5x2 by lg motorsports and the fm13 by futral.

Oh I meant to add... a 112 HELPS the low end. Not hurts. With MOST cams (some do vary I hear, but have never seen), the lower the LSA, the lower the powerband is shifted.

Sorry to see you sold it, but I am sure you will find a real good substitute!

Thanks again for the suggestions and definitely going 112 and most likely the V2 since their is a lot of good replies regarding it.
Also really appreciate your input as far as mileage and driveability, thanks! I feel a whole lot better with this cam already.

I'll keep everyone posted iwth my results.
