Building the enigne-What's reuseable??

Ok I'm in the process of a rebuild. I think I have almost everything or at else where to get them but I have a couple questions. Where are all the Torque to yield bolts besides the heads and balancer? Which gaskets are reusable, namely the oil pan and Valley cover gaskets? I already have new head gaskets put the one seal that I need is the rear cover seal? Know the part#?

Depends on how frugal you want to be. I've reused dang near every gasket/bolt on an LS1 at some point, with the exception of head bolts/gaskets. The valve cover gaskets don't seem to like being reused, as they seem to grow (or swell) just a tad after they've been installed for awhile, and then removed. Oil pan, front & rear covers, and valley cover gaskets would probably be OK.

When I rebuilt mine ~2 years ago I reused the stock rod bolts and main cap bolts also. I don't think reusing these bolts contirbuted to the failure of my engine.

Just give anything you plan to use again a good cleaning (careful what you use, as some products could deform/deteriorate rubber) and visual inspection. If in doubt, replace it. Most of the gaskets/seals aren't overly expensive.

I wish I had the money for an ALL Bore but I'm spending almost to much money as it is now. I'd probably be ok with just throwing this short block in there but I don't want to take ANY chances cause if anything happens before I log another 100 or so passes I'm gonna blow this damn car up

If you like you can come on down so I don't have to hear any BS once I do get back to the track, I know you're playing but if anyone around here wants to come down let me know

It Felt pretty good to actually need my torque wrench tonight as I'm finally finishing up the K-member and a-arms

Joe is only gonna mill the heads around.010-.011 so whats that 10.2-3 I don't think that the CR that we can acheive with the heads/pistons available now make a big difference. Plus Joe said that if I take too much off I will not be able to run a larger cam in the future without valve reliefs cut in

So far the K-member, long wheel studs and lower a-arms are done along with cleaning up the steering knuckes(they look great once you knock all the rust off and squirt a little black paint on them). Hopefully the upper a-arms get here early this week so I can finish the front end and start building the beast

Sounds good but something doesnt sound right.Joe has angle milled heads ALOT more the .010.

Mine were .016 and I ran the TR cam?Why would he only wanna mill yours .010?U can run more lift than u think but it has to do with the duration and timing events too.

Cartek has a set lift numbers they stick with for there S2X heads that I'm running but we r also using alittle more CR than 10.2

Good luck Bob.I would think a balance, rod bolts and new rings would be a fine setup.
