Default I definetly lost some low end torque with....

the 3" off road y pipe and my Hooker LT's, it pulls real strong up top but under 3 K rpms it is more doggish for lack of a better word. I was planning on getting a Hooker catback with my current set up but I am now thinking maybe I will put some high flow cats in to give me back that streetable torque and go with a loudmouth. Do you all think cats and a loudmouth will give me more response and low end torque than no cats and a Hooker catback? I miss having that stiff pedal feeling under 3K rpms, I am hoping that some high flow cats on there will bring that back out, it seems the backpressure of the cats close to the motor gives better response and low-end?

Give the PCM some time to adjust, you should gain it back after a period of time. Did you do back to back dyno's?

I have had this y pipe and headers on for two weeks now, I think that with just a cam and some minor bolt ons, it is flowing a little too much on the lower end and is the reason for the lack of response and torque. has anyone switched to off road pipes from cats and noticed the same thing?

Honestly in my opinon If you DEFFINATLY lost low end torq like you say then you have a problem. My dyno is the same as EVERYONE i have seen with open exaust. the MORE you OPEN it MORE POWER you get EVERYWHERE Tq&Hp alike. Low and Top end.....Its just in your head because you hear it more and expect that it being louder it will be going faster.... Think about it, Tim 98z

I will let you know on my next dyno.. When I switched to 3 inch custom y-pipe.. It actually felt stronger.. Once my heads come back I am expecting to be over 400rwtq..

I don't have the same pipes I have SLP LT but when I took my cats off and istalled ORP I did not feel any loss of low end torque.

If your car is a 6 speed you can change the gears to 4.10s, that will give you all the torque you need for the street!

I ordered my Hooker catback today so I guess the putting cats on decision is out. I just figured if everyone else says that no cats produce more power than it must be right

I usually run FLP w/orp and a cutout on the street and close the cutout with a mccord plate which sends it through a muffler and its way way way quieter. Once I installed a trans mount and went out onto the street, a cop came so i pulled over and closed the cutout. After he passed a good distance I turned around, and nailed the gas and was in total shock that the trans mount made my car TONS FASTER! Like mentioned above, I was used to the open headers being loud and expecting it to be faster than it was. Since it was quiet and WOT it felt way faster..feels like the motor isnt even trying. But then I opened it back up and went back to being a slow *** camaro. As mentioned above..its all in your head.
