FLP'S OR MAC'S?

Hey Guy's!
I'm wanting to put headers on my 99 T/A but dont know which ones to go with. My car already runs 13.1' or 2's. But i also want the best sounding set also. I hear the flp's make better torque down low but the mac's make about the same at peak? Price really isnt an issue. Uncle Sam's paying for it anyway. HA!

Are the Groths also referred to as TTS.

Re: FLP'S OR MAC'S?

Not sure but i dont think so. TTS has there own website and i dont remember seeing Grot's anywhere in it.

Popular LS1 Headers:

Shorty's
-Hooker
-Edelbrock

Mid's
-Mac
-Bassani

Longtubes
-Hooker
-SLP
-FLP
-Dynatech (no emissions provisions)
-TTS
-Grotyohann
-TPIS

I have TTS longtubes right now.

Re: FLP'S OR MAC'S?

Grots and TTS are to completley different companies. TTS headers are similar to FLPs in price and performance, except they ONLY offer cats! Thats why you don't see to many people running them. Grotts ONLY offer ORPs.

Re: FLP'S OR MAC'S?

THANKS FOR THE LIST JOHN. I RAN MY CAR FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR THIS PAST SATURDAY AND LAUNCHED FROM IDLE AND RAN 13.2 AT 104.90. I RUN ON DRAG RADIALS AND JUST WANT TO BREAK INTO THE MID/HIGH 12'S. I'M TRYING TO DECIDE BETWEEN THE MAC'S AND FLPS. I KEEP HEARING THAT THE FLPS WILL DEFINITELY SOUND BETTER. (WHICH IS WHAT I WANT)....? BUT WILL THE HP GAIN BE WORTH NEARLY DOUBLE THE COST OF THE MAC'S?

Re: FLP'S OR MAC'S?

The TTS's do come with the cats and a y-pipe

http://www.tbyrne.com/ls1catalog.html sells this setup unless i read it wrong.

And by the way what are ORP's

That's the question that I want to know about I'm torn between the 2 myself.

What are the prices you are looking at?

Keep in mind that a pair of cats easily retail for $300.

Cheapest bang for the buck is to run a set of Mac, uncoated, with a Mac ORP. Less than $500. I ran that setup but did have the headers hitemp coated. Figure another $150 to have them coated.

If it's an auto, and you want to run 12's, just get a converter.

I really like my FLP/cat/loudmouth setup. The snap in ORP are a little too loud, and only cost a few HP to run the cats. Plus, don't have to worry about the cops and their emissions laws.

How much HP did you gain from the MAC's?

WHAT ABOUT THE "RASP" WITH THE MAC'S I'VE READ ABOUT?

Re: FLP'S OR MAC'S?

I never dynoed the Mac by themselves.

Back when I had my first LS1, a 98 SS M6, I dynoed
288 rwhp at 750 miles.

I added an MTI lid, K&N filter, and a cutout, and did 300rwhp.

I then added G'hann headers, with cats, ported MAF, and a RT catback and did 327rwhp. With an underdrive crank pulley, maybe a MAF T, I could have hit 340rwhp no problem back then in early 1999. That's a gain of like 60 horsepower and it was all bolton power.

IMO I like longtubes the best, but it's also up to you regarding cost.

Re: FLP'S OR MAC'S?

i dont mind the price that much. but i dont want to spend the extra money to get the same sound/performance, ya know?

Re: FLP'S OR MAC'S?

I definitely think that longtubes will make more power, surely more torque.

I also hear very good things about the SLP longtubes.

Can someone define ORP's.

ORP'S = OFF ROAD PIPES...
