Dragula is home again... Thanks Speed Inc. and BV Performance
To recap, a few weeks ago I went to Speed Inc. to dyno Dragula and do some pcm tuning.
We had to work thru some issues, ie locked pcm and an equipment failure, but tonite we did a few pulls and got the cat back up to some decent #'s...
440rwhp, 500rwtq unlocked...
I would have tried to lock it but it was getting really late.
I want bigtime thank the Speed gang... Tom, Dan but especially Larry. Larry is one of those meticulous guys who I know will take care of my car.
Thanks to BV Performance, the driveability is fantastic, the shifts points are finally right after two years... Even feels like there is less torque management... I also for the first time in two years have a converter that locks up again.
We were going to dyno the FIPK but ran out of time. We wanted to lock up the converter but again it was really late, and it takes some time to wait for the LS1 Edit to work.
I may go back at some point and do some more testing.
My Hp #'s are low but frankly I think that if we leaned the car even more it would have hit 450rwhp and about 470rwhp locked.
My car also starts right up when I hit the key, and it does not stall or need feathering.
I am overall very pleased, I wanted a bit more rwhp, but did not lock the converter so those #'s are unknown. I am also dynoing thru a Moser 9" with 4.10's which eats some power (I sound like Joel now).
We did all the pulls with no air filter, fan on the airbox, and the airbox open.
I think I need to change plugs, and the oil.
A little wrenching, and it's off to the track.

Those numbers unlocked through a nine inch with 4.11's are great. If you had a stock rear, a manual lockup switch and CF DS you would hit close to 485-490RWHP locked. Not bad at all

A couple more notes for the hardcore...
PCM:
31 degrees of timing, no KR, 92 Amoco in the tank. We tried a pull towards the end of the nite and did 28 degrees of timing, and lost about 5hp. Current AF ratio is about 13:1, motor does make a bit more power at 13.5:1 but I don't want to push it. I did want to dyno it at 14:1 just to see what it would do.
We were also able to get my old program unlocked by Ken from Carputing. So we were able to compare the values. We tried some of the values and got some value from that.
A guy I know said that my car has incredible throttle response, he thought I carbed it.
Feels like there is less tq maneagment, I should not have had any but it feels better on the upshifts.
Converter is locking up at 45mph man that rocks. It's been YEARS since it would do it on it's own.

Re: Dragula is home again... Thanks Speed Inc. and BV Performance
Interesting info on the hp difference between 28 and 31 degrees of advance... I have done a "safety" program for my new motor so I don't hurt anything initially, and backed the advance down to 25deg. As soon as I get the motor running, I'll be making some dyno runs to get things dialed in a little before hitting the track. I'll have a little more compression than most, so I don't know what kind of advance it's going to be able to handle, or what the motor will like.
LS1Edit is gonna make things like that nice...

Prostock after countless different setups. I am glad to see that your luck has finally kick in. Hope to see you at the track sometime in the near future.

Unlocked converter vs a locked up converter.
When I dynoed at FLP last year, I went from 419 unlocked to 435 locked with some problems. So I'm guessing I'd get into the 460-465rwhp range by locking it up.
George, yeah you can scale back the timing and bring it back up, that's a great feature.
My ARE/Superchips tuning was using about 28 degrees of timing... BV tends to use 31 degrees once he has the fueling right. Carputing suggests getting the Ltrims down to around zero +/- before tweaking other stuff. My Ltrims are in the +/-1 range now. I like the idea of you running 25 degrees to start.
My #'s unlocked are a lot lower than say PaiN's, but he has over 12:1 compression (I have 11:1), and he has LS6 heads. Still his car is going 129-130mph and I bet he'll hit 132mph, and I think I'll max out at 125-126mph at the same weight as him. I'm not sure why I don't make more RWHP but perhaps my heads don't flow as well as equivalent MTI heads.

I'm glad my raceweight comes in at 3400# now. If I lose another 30# with a pin on hood and add 40rwhp with a 388 short block, I'll be competitive with PSJ and still have AC and a quiet exhaust.

Terry you can dream.
Once I max out the car the way it sits, I will start doing weight reduction.
I don't have a dyno sheet handy, but I make like 440rwhp from 5000-6500 rpms.
If I don't see 125mph with my shift points I will not be happy and might talk to ARE about doing a different set of heads.

Well the driveability is better but I'm still really surprised that you've lost peak HP from the tuning. If anything as fat as that motor was running you should have easily gained some HP.
That was a hell of a lot of dyno runs for it to do that. But driveability and shift points are truly important things.
I don't wanna turn this into a technical discussion but could you possibly be leaning this thing out too much at certain RPMs at WOT?
Anyway glad to hear your driving the car again.

Those are numbers just like my car made last year. Was that on an Eddy Current dyno? If so 125 should be no problem. I weighed in at 3590 and went a best of 126.6. Good luck and I am looking forward to running with you at some event in the near future!

No TK, that was on Dynojet.
AF is not lean in upper rpms, might still be too rich in fact, but perhaps I'll take another stab at in a month or so.
