Dart 205 or 225's

I am in the market for heads they will be put on my stock block. I am almost dead set on the Dart heads because of the price. So since i am still on stock displacement should i go with the 205 or 225's. I will be running nitrous as a power adder  to this engine. I was also curious wether or not they have a thicker deck over stock like the AFR's. I eventually will be puttin a bigger displacement engine in also, not in the too near future however. Any help will be greatly appreciated, especially from people with the Dart heads :)

The deck surface thickness on the Darts is .600". I would used the 205 cc intake runner heads. That way later when you build a new engine combo you can port the heads to match. Dart is also still working on their CNC ported head, maybe by the time that you are ready for the new motor you can just send your heads into them and have the CNC work done.

I have the 205s and I would suggest the 225s. I have seen the flow numbers and the 225s flow just as good as the 205s, but they drastically improve above .600 lift. I currently have some 205s on my new engine and they are the hold up as I need to have them worked or replaced to reach my full potential.

If you are going to be spending the money I would recommend getting the 225 to start and build from there. Its better to buy once and forget about it then to buy twice later on.

I don't know a whole lot about the Dart heads, but just make sure they clear your pistons if you go with the 225's. They may have a bigger valve than the 205's. Now if your running a stock cam, I don't see any issues with valve clearance or even a mild cam. Now I've heard at least with the AFR 225's you loose a tad bit in the bottom end because they were intended for more cubic inches. That may hold true with the Darts, call them and find out. Best of luck too you with whatever you go with!

Yep if you are planning future mods go the 225's

We have done many different setups in testing the 205's and the 225's. I would highly recommend going with the 225cc heads, especially if you plan on doing further modifications down the road (motor build, etc.)

Yea, i will eventually be building something along the lines of a 408. I would like to run a large cam on my ls1 though, something that would be nitrous hungry. Should i have any clearance issues?

I almost forgot to add, most of the sponsors if not all of them that deal Dart heads have the 205 and 225's for the same price. Like 799.99 per assembled head.

That depends on the specific camshaft that you want to run and what lobe seperation angle the camshaft has. If there are PTV issues, you can just fly cut the pistons so that everything fits.

I'd go with the 225's, I ve ported them they flow great and will work fine as cast with your current set-up.

The only oil burning problems were with the early TSP ported versions.

vettenuts Jan 23, 2007 03:44 PM

My oil consumption went down from my stock heads with the Darts :drive:

Steve68 Jan 23, 2007 04:33 PM

Good to know!!! Thanks

verve_v Jan 23, 2007 07:30 PM

Sweet, i am not a big fan of burning oil.

99blancoSS Jan 23, 2007 07:37 PM

The issue was with the cnc'ed darts. Dont know if its been resolved yet, just ask TSP they were in contact with Dart about it.

if displacement remained the same 205! if it is a streeet car 205! if you are going to go over 400 cubes sell the 205 and get a 225 or what ever is best and new at the time. who know there may be 11 degreee heads out there by then. buy what you need now the 205. and yes i am the minority opion but if you left out the part of increasing displacemnet all true techs would say 205 especialy for the street
