Default LS1 or LS6 Heads??

If i were doing a head and cam package for my Camaro SS. Is there any benfit of going with the LS6 head to start with over the stock LS1 head.

Because you get better flow numbers outta the LT4 head vs the LT1.

You'll get better numbers out of LS6 heads in most cases. The question is, is it worth the money, and only you can answer it. If you're building a ***** to the wall, solid roller cam, 1 7/8" header high revving car, LS6 heads would probably be a good investment. If you are trying to maximize any combo, LS6 heads are a step in the right direction. With that said, a lot of members have pulled 425+ rwhp with ported LS1 heads.

So, what are your goals and how much do you want to spend? If you just want a quicker street car, LS1 heads will work fine. If you want to run 10.50s with 346 ci, LS6 heads will probably be a wise investment.

It was more of a which heads make more power question. I remember some time back High Tech Performance mag had a issue where they swapped out the ported ls1 heads with Ls6 and a LS6 intake and made like 40 more RWHP!! I belive the Ls6 heads had the same port and valve size as the heads they took off.

Does anyone remember this????

GMHTP did an article about Chris Endres old Z28. First dynoed with ARE Stg 2 LS1 heads/LS1 intake, then with the LS6 intake, then with the ported LS6 heads and LS1 intake, and then the ported LS6 heads and LS6 intake. There might have been a 40 rwhp gain from the intake and the heads, but just the heads were worth much less. I dont have the article with me, someone else will have to quote it.

Stock for stock, LS6 heads would not add 40 hp over LS1 heads. They are not that much better!

With a cam i believe they would add a decent bit more power, with the increase in flow and compression, and exhausts flow much better also on LS6 head.

If you'll be upgrading to a bigger displacement engine down the road, then you should consider LS6 heads. I asked Jayson of MTI the same question and he said that on a stock displacement engine, you wouldn't really see any gains with LS6 heads over ported LS1's.
