Default Oredered a custom Cam grind, what do you think?

Hi everybody, I'm new here

The water looks fine, thought I would jump in!

Need a cam so I called Comp Cams Friday told them about my large valve ported heads, headers, and willing to do some PCM programming.

This is their suggestion: 218/224/563/568 114

If you were to design a cam as how YOU believe it would make strong HP & TQ over the broudest range, what would the specks be like?
I can call within a few day and have my cam changed
So please give me your thoughts

This is in a 2002 Corvette Coupe

Thanks for your time. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

You didn't really list details of your setup, but with ported heads, headers, and a willingness to do some PCM tuning, that cam is on the mild side. There's nothing wrong with it, but most folks here will probably agree that you'll be leaving some power on the table.

FWIW, I ran a best of 10.89 with a 220/224 .532/.535 114lsa CompCam and GTP 2.02/1.57 valved heads...

I agree with George that it's definitely on the mild side. Like he said, you left out the details, but you could easily go with more intake duration without sacrificing drivability and increasing power. Having a tighter LSA will help with your broad power range (112 vs. 114 for instance). If you feel like trying something new, have them grind you a reverse split pattern cam, providing you don't mind a nice, lopey idle. Thunder Racing has opened the doors on the reverse splits, and other shops are quickly following in their footsteps. Even if you went with a single-pattern grind, I think you'd fare better than the 218/224. I'm running Comp's 224/224 XE-R grind on a 112 LSA in my A4, and it's making some great power. The drivability is excellent, and it put down some nice #'s on the dyno and at the track. The full specs are 224/224, .581"/.581", 112 LSA. Mine has two degrees of advance ground into it, FWIW.

You'll have better low and mid rpm power with your cam. May be more 'fun' to drive than other large duration cams.

That said, the new MTI 'X1' sounds very interesting! I'd go 2.02 Intake if they heads aren't done yet.

*I* like yer cam!

That cam should run just fine. As long as you stay w/ a stock (heavy) flywheel, that cam should have good power from 1500-6500.

I have 1.8 rockers, so my cam set-up is .560/.571 218/224 @ 112LSA. (If the shop ever gets done w/ my car <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" /> , I'll letcha know how she runs ).

Broadest range is tough. Most fellers around here aren't into stump-pullin', but the last set-up I had was sweet: 212/218 w/ the 1.8 rockers. Instant scorched tires in any gear at any rpm. 300lb-ft at 1500rpms <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> . Instant Torque from idle.

Won't be able to do that w/ a 218/224, but she'll run better through the 3000-6000 rpm range. "There is no such thing as a 'miracle cam'."

A bigger cam will make more power. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
