Question Need advice from prof. engine builders: Resize rod end when changing rod bolts?

I've been contemplating having my rod bolts changed in my car when I get my cam.

I've heard from several reputable resources that you should not change rod bolts without resizing the rod end.

Is this true?

The Crank End Of Your Rod Is The Fracture Type And Can Not Be Machined. I See No Reason You Can't Replace Just The Bolts As Long As You Follow The Strict Instruction And Torque Provided With The Fastner Your Using.

Katech bolts don't require a resize. You can run ARP bolts without resizing, but it's recommend that you do.

The Katech bolts run about $145 a set.

Does everyone else think it's O.K. not to resize?

I think you will be fine but its still a slight risk with the ARP's. A while back a guy who worked for a tool and die manufacturer got ahold of some rods and tested the ARP bolts and measured for rod end distortion and the distortion was so minimal it would be far from a concern. If you search you may be able to find the thread.

if you have access to the measuring tools, it would be a good idea to see how much they distort with the new bolts, and see how it compares to the old bolts. If not, I wouldnt worry about it.
