Do it when ever you want. What is the worst that can happen, you have to rebuild a high mileage engine? If it is going to go, I bet the cam won't make much of a difference on the timing.

Wear should be the deciding factor on if you want to cam it or not... the thing is mileage won't be a good indicator of wear. It's the best we have, but not a particularly good one. One car could be on its last [motor's] leg at 65K miles, and yet another could be in pristine condition mechanically at 185K miles because of a superior maintenance program and better care throughout its life.

LT1's seemed to have the high milage cam swap issue, due to having 2 bolt mains and if the block is used to not having it un fastend after alot of miles.
LS1's are structurally more ridgid, I would have no worries about a cam swap even at a 100k. Just be aware of cam bearings, thats bout it.

if its its over 80-100k, change out the timing chain and oilpump (like 300 bucks as a set.),
you might as well change your pulley($200), tensioner ($125), etc etc... if you got the money get a balancer and electric water pump too...
word of the wise, if it comes off, you might as well replace it with a new piece if its plastic or rubber.
p.s. i took for granted the springs etc, you need to update your springs according to the cam if your goin to be spinnning it that high, i got an ls6 cam in mine, but i let it shift out at early bc i have OEM springs( i never see 6000rpm)

im at 114k and im doing a cam swap in 3 weeks.. my oil pressure is always 55 at idle.. 65 under throttle.. always running good.. not a daily driver anymore either..
but im not going aggressive with the cam... looking in the 220-224 range..with a lift no greater than .570.. because its not what i need
