Default Is this a real GM ASA cam? I think my buddy got screwed!

Buddy got what is supposed to be a GM asa cam in the mail today. On the side of the cam are the numbers 269A that were hand drawn? I told him I thought all GM cams have a set of machine generated numbers like on the ls6 cam we pulled out of his car last night? Am I right about all GM cams having a similar series of numbers like on the LS6?

Thats the only thing engraved on the end of the cam. He bought it from a member on this board, the guy was giving him the runaround for a week because he couldn't get the asa out of his car because of a "stripped rocker bolt", offered to send him a bigger cam that he had. My buddy said no just hurry and pull the asa, so he did 3-4 days later and overnighted it. On the ls6 that we pulled it had a series of numbers that were computer engraved, I thought I heard something about all GM cams having these computer engraved numbers but I'm not sure, which is why I'm asking?

This isn't marker, it's engraved. Most cams have numbers hand engraved on the end of them. I just didn't think GM cams have hand engraved numbers.

All the GM cams ive seen have a funky new age barcode dohickey and some numbers printed/laser engraved(?) on the end. Almost all of the aftermarket cams ive seen are hand engraved.

I don't remember seeing any markings on my ASA cam but I could be wrong as I didn't look very close.

I had an ASA cam. I remember that a number and letter were engraved onto the end of it and I beleive it was 267A. I sold it and cant find the Pm that had the number on it. But either way I think your fine.

Ok, my buddy actually just told me he found an old post and a guy had the same question, turns out 267a is what he had on his ASA cam!

If it helps my OEM rear end has hand written stuff all over it, as do parts under the hood on my WS6. The factory writes too!

asa cam is an older grind that GM made for a defunct oval track racing series in the midwest. all the motors were identical LS1' and the cam is a 226 - 236 525 - 525 110 LSA
It has considerable overlap, but sounds badass
