This kit and it is .052>.054 compressed thickness.

Basic Heads & Camshaft Bolt & Gasket Kit
Item#:
25-HCKIT
GM LS1 Graphite Set

GM Set for Pre-2004 Blocks, Long and Short Bolts
Your Price
$149.99

There is no GM gasket in .040 thickness.

What is your H/C combo you're planning on?

im going with a LPE GT2-3 and a set of Patriot stg 1. ls6 cylinder heads. I asked the guys at patriot that i wanted to bump up my CR and they told me to use the gm graphite gaskets with .040 thickness, i was told it'd give me a CR of 10.7:1, i find this odd now that you tell me they don't make that thickness

If you didnt already order the heads you could have them milled. Either way I would give TSP a call and find out what all comes in that package becuase Patriot will send you all the head bolts you need for $20+ shipping, and you can get GM MLS gaskets from Thunder Racing for $23 each.

I've used both GM type, graphite and MLS, .052>.056 is the range compressed.

Mill the heads to 61cc (.015 mill) and use the MLS. IMO

Sure, or order the Cometic .040 gaskets. They will be more pricey than GM's though

call another vendor, maybe TR? Predator might be going on his expirience (and his sig says he has an '01) so gunnar is probably correct, but it wouldn't hurt to make sure form another vendor.

I would call TSP to find out what all is included in their package. I bought mine from WS6store, TSP had a good price for the cam kit I wanted but shipping came out to be like $35 after I added into the shopping cart so I bought from a different vendor

Predator knows his stuff. The factory does not have .041 compressed gaskets. Stock is between .052 and .056. I think I read somewhere that the GM MLS gaskets crush to .054. I used the GM MLS on my 2001 Trans Am. No problems at all. They are reliable and cheaper than the Cometic. Don't even sweat it.

Mr. gasket makes a .042 compressed thickness gasket for around $20.00 a piece.

If that was true then none of use would ever buy Cometics
out of the dozen+ time I've swapped those graphites they measured .053 & .054 with my caliper (digital)

Do it right. Get the Cometics. Are the Cometics the same for all LS1 years, or are they different '98-'00 and '01-'02 like the GMs??
