Default fkk :( may have damaged my crank

i guess it was finally my turn for something to fkk up on my car i was swaping cams from the ms4 to the patriot 226 and i was all finishing up and was about to install my crank pully. i go with the long bolt to push it in first then follow with the stocker to driver her home. well the thing was that the pully only wanted to go 7/8's of the way in...i'm puzzled. so i pull the bolt out and woopty fkking due, the end's of the thread are all bald i didnt force it in or anything didnt try it sideways or anything, dont know what's going on. this was my second cam swap already and i did my first one myself and no problems. what am i to do? i'm running around town to see if i can find a tap the side of the bolt and nothing is happening, no one has one. i'm flat out broke with no money and no idea were to go now. any help?

I would first take the stock bolt and thread it in there and see how it holds, if the stocker goes in than you may be able to just get away with using that with a lot of red loctite on it.

Well you could possibly just helicoil the crank. Thats no big deal really. You toher option is to replace the crank.

Same thing happened to mine....... in the same exact spot too. I panicked at first but then used a BFH and wrapped on the inside of the pulley to make it go on more. Used a new crank bolt, it grabbed the newfound threads and torqued it down, hope this helps.

That happened to Jamie when he put on his underdrive pulley. You can tap the crank and get a new bolt or swap the crank out if you have the time, money and ability. I would try the tap first.

Used bolt for $100 + shiping?? The crank bolt is Torque to yeild, and certainly isn't $100

Sorry to hear that man, good luck.

Get a heli-coil kit and fix it correctly. Using a ton of loctite will assure future problems. Follow the correct procedure on installation and don't use a bolt of any type, you are begging for problems. Make a tool, less than $20.

Um...I think it says used crank for $100. I could be wrong though.

thanks guy, i'm going to try going to a warehouse shop and seeingif they have the correct tap, hoping they do becuase this was a big slap in the face ( i would be done paying off the car this month and having a jacked up motor )

nmp thanks for the offer, i'm going to try the other two options first and hope that i dont have to resort to the last one, droping the engine to swap cranks

vettnuts, did you make that tool yourself? i'm trying to imagine how it hooks up onto the crank snout, you wouldnt happen to have any pictures of it in action would you?
i've always been very paranoid having to use a bolt to push in the pully but that seems' to be the only way huh.

thanks again guy's for all of yalls help. i'll report back to you all in the afternoon, there's suppost to be a severe storm later today and working in the driveway with no porche or anything sucks

I believe its a 12mm 2.0 pitch, I just had to tap mine last week when I was rebuilding my motor, take your bolt down to your local machine shop, they will most likely have a tap and a die and they might let you borrow it. A tap that size is probably around 40 bucks

618HAWK has a tool he made. I highly recomend it. Works like a champ. PM him. You will need to clean those threads up before you can use the tool.

man! hope u fix this. and I would not use a ton of loctite cause if you ever need to remove the bolt. you might break it, if that matters then.
