Default New oil pump?

My car has about 120,000 miles and i'm doing a cam swap. Is it necessary to change the oil pump? I've had the car since it was new and it has only had Mobil 1 10w30 in it. My oil pressure at idle is around 45 and over 60 cruising. Are there any reliability issues to consider or will the pump last a bit longer? By the way, I will be changing the stock water pump while its off. Also, what are your opinions on spring life. My patriot heads have been on for 30,000 miles, but I have a very mild cam. Should the dual springs need to be replaced or is there a way to test them?

That's nice pressure, but it mostly depends on your bearings and their wear. Just don't take it apart. That is a lot of miles. Do get a new pickup tube o-ring. Yeah, you might be able to reuse it, but most people after doing a cam swap have lost pressure due to the o-ring not seating properly. The new one is thicker and red, your old one is blue.
Also get the LS2 timing chain it's about 25-32 bucks from the dealer, timing gears are the same.

Do a search for "cam swap"

Springs can only be measured with a tester, (spring height guage/compressor) they'd have to be removed to have them tested. That all depends on your driving.

Thanks for your input. I already have a double roller so I hope its okay as is. I just really don't want to do the oil pump swap if its not a necessity. Are the pumps on the 02s known for failures? I guess when I have the heads milled, maybe that shop can check out the springs.

Thanks for all the advice. We'll see how those springs test out, but I think I'll hold off on the oil pump. I've had no pressure issues in the past. I'm definitely going to install a new cam and push rods, injectors, water pump, and if enough money is left over it'll get a fast 90/90. I can't wait to get it back on the track.

I'll be doing heads/cam/timing set swap on my 93,000 mile '99 in a few weeks. I have 50 psi oil pressure at idle and over 60 psi past 4,000 rpm. I am not changing my oil pump; I am just putting the stock one right back on the engine. Thanks for the heads up on the new o-ring though; I will get the newer/thicker one .
