zo6 cam in ls1?

03 z06 cam is a good amount bigger then stock 98 ls1 cam, is it worth the trouble for a dd cam?

is it possible to keep stock pushrods if so? (i have springs in my tea's already tho)

No, not really unless you're getting it for free - but even then you'll need all the gaskets and shit...its worth the extra few hundred to get a nice new cam, pushrods, and springs.

Thats my 2 cents though.

But, to answer your questions, assuming the car isnt getting any other mods? Sure...I guess...but would I keep the stock pushrods? Probably not...but Im sure some others may be far more wise than I am concerning that.

well i found one for pretty cheap, and i bought the car with heads and it was previously cammed, so the gain should be alright, i can understand pushrods, this assuming i would install it myself, not have a shop do it.

not worth the time and money. That is a SMALL cam, if you want a nice DD cam look at some of our sponsors and you can find a cam that will give you a lot more and still be a nice daily driver. Call up Texas speed or thunder racing. There tech guys will be glad to talk to you and advise you in the right direction.

Agreed, if it aint free, dont waste your time IMHO.

khaos288 06-03-2007 11:36 PM

alrighty i'll save up a litttle more and buy just mildish cam then, thanks for the info man

N2OGTO 06-03-2007 11:47 PM

yeah, not worth the hours to intall

khaos288 06-04-2007 12:23 AM

well if i had a free weekend i have no ac so the cam swap is that much easier, would it at least be some OK gains?

SRT2LS1 06-04-2007 12:30 AM

It will def. get you some gains. How much? depends on the heads it came with really. Im sure its not going to be anything amazing a good 20rwhp maybe. If thats worth the hours and the money for cam and all else needed then go ahead, it seems you really want to go that route.

khaos288 06-04-2007 12:34 AM

well those vette guys are like "oh i got a 03+z06 thats cammed...stock one? its in the garage somewhere i guess, 10 bucks" lol, and their tea 5.3ls and when i was putting my ls6 intake on the other day they look pretty legit on the port job, and its only a couple hour job to do the swap so 50 bucks for 20 rwhp aint bad (ps i just got a 100 wet shot so i kinda want some street power too)

SRT2LS1 06-04-2007 12:37 AM

Go for it then, seems like you dont mind the wrench time either. So if you dont like it will be nothing to do it again with a diffrent cam...

khaos288 06-04-2007 01:08 AM

yeh, summer year between senior and freshman has alot of free time so far, the day my waterpump went out i just swapped em right then and there autozone style lol

SRT2LS1 06-04-2007 01:34 AM

Let us know how it goes, im curious!

Dynoed recently? I would like to see b4 and after...

MightyBobo 06-04-2007 07:28 AM

Yeah, if you just dont mind the wrench time at all and its only like $10, and you REALLY wanna go the route then its not going to hurt anything...this is the thing though - you'll need new springs anyway really, since they had stiffer springs for the LS6 cam. So, get some good springs/retainers, and some pushrods. Then if you decide to go out and get a new cam, you'll be good to go to just yank that Z06 out and put a new one in.

khaos288 06-04-2007 09:39 AM

my teas came with stiffer springs :-)

(just another reason the swap would be JFF

Tainted 06-04-2007 09:45 AM

the z06 cam is small, you can go bigger and get way better gains for the same amonut of $$

GreatWhiteHype01 06-04-2007 11:14 AM

Anyone know a good profile T-REX cam for a stock LS1 heads, 2600 stall, 3.73's, and 100 HP wet shot of NOS?? Thanks.

khaos288 06-04-2007 11:57 AM

well i realize the gains for a z06 one are minimal, but those vette guys aren't looking to make much money, so when i say cheap, i mean, they cost like nothing lol

d james 06-04-2007 12:42 PM

Hmm I wouldn't do it, thats not really worth the gains, when I've put in bigger cams I've been disappointed because I barely felt a difference, so the difference you fee; with this one will be 10% real 90% placebo. IF this was a simple job of changing rockers, I'd say do it, but tearing into the engine and all seems like a pain for so little gains. I'd at least find out exactly how much power you will see from that cam before installing it, what if its only 10 FWHP, then its not worth it.
IF you do it, let us know cause It would be interesting to see what you get.

khaos288 06-04-2007 12:47 PM

well i've been talking to some people that have done it, and all the stock head guys say 10-15 and all the ported pro head guys say up to 25, and i'm just kinda an under the hood guy i like to learn and just be hands on, so it'd be half for the experience of camming it, plus the springs which are the bitch work are already done
