Reusing GM MLS gaskets? Are these safe to reuse? I torqued them down, but I am thinking about pulling a head to weigh my valves (want to check if I got the hollow ones.) They have been torqued, but not ran. What if the black coating around the piston/water jackets is messed up? Any input? |
You can re-use them even if they're been run. ( I don't) If you're concerned about the water jacket area you can use a little copper spray or a thin wipe of Ultra-Copper RTV. |
If you pull the head, spend the $55 and get new ones. Why chance it and all the headache that goes along with a leaking head gasket over a lousy $55... :) |
You should be fine. It would help to keep the coolant passages clean if the gaskets were cleaned before you put it back on. I don't think it'll do much if you didn't though. Why didn't you use a thinner gasket? |

If not run, no issues at all. That is a lot of work to just measure a valve. |
