Going with new combo...need advice please!

Going with new combo...need advice please! Okay, I am tossing around a few combonations right now, and will be making my decision within the next couple days.
I currently have MMS Stage 2 heads and a 224 .566 112 cam. This combo with a not soo good tune make 400hp thru an M6 and a 9" with 4.11's.
I switched the engine into my 01 SS A4 and when the shop put the car on the dyno to tune it, coolant went everywhere...soo they took the engine back out and found a bad head gasket. No problem. But now after seeing my friends 00 SS with 5.3 heads and the same cam and same suspension setup as me only go 12.0 at the local track, I am now wanting to go bigger/better.
But this is where I am stuck. I read over bigellar's post, about doing the H.O. 6.0 motor and that seems like a good combo, but I would like to use better heads...someone in that post mentioned the 6.0 block w/dished pistons, 5.3 heads, and a nice healthy cam. I am all about this setup. Does this sound like a good way to make some power on a budget? I would end up building the motor down the road, soo I figure it would be a good base to start with.
I will be running a 3800 stall and probably 3.73 gears.
I am probably gonna go with TEA 5.3 heads and the G5X2 cam. This car isnt a daily driver and is gonna be setup mainly for the 1/4.
