What's the best cam for a 427 stroker....

This is my daily driver. It must retain A/C use, excellent driveability, good starts (hot and cold), and make the most power it can by attaining to these must haves listed prior. Car is MN6 and here's what the heads flow (not bad eh ;) ):

I currently run an R1 cam, 232 236 .575 .578 114

Let's see your input!

I read in a post that MTI is trying a new cam in the 236/236 .595 range for their strokers. Maybe that would better suit your taste.

The cam you're running jnow is pretty small for a 427, are you wanting to go bigger and still maintain driveability, keep the lsa at 114, but up the intake/exhaust duration. The cam I have in my 388 is a 243/250 .610/.612 114 and it idles like a champ, I pulled the a/c so I don't know how it would do but I'm sure with tuning it would be fine.

I agree, it's very small cam for a 427 CI stroker. I like the duration you have but I'd like to keep the lift at or under .600" for spring longevity, however, if it gave a noticeable diff then I'd opt for the more lift and swap the springs out later. Where is this post where MTI was thinking of using a bigger cam?

Im building a Alum Block 409 and I am looking at the Lunati 242/242 .595 112. Seels for $345 :hail: If not Comp has a Catalog in the mail to me, so I will look around in there. I think you need to START looking at the 242 range and go up from there. I have the same criteria as you, except I have an A4. Good Luck.

From experience I can tell you that the Comp Cam 242/242 - .612/.612 will idle and drive without issue.

Wow, this is the almost the exact type of set-up I want also. Right now I am using my car for patrol but once it's done, I want to install a 427 in my car. I hope this thread keeps going on, so I can get the best input for my own project. So far, all I am planning to do right now is a minor rebuild with fresh parts. Have 85K miles on my car now, so I will soon have to rebuild both engine and trans. But once my car is done for patrol, I want to do my dream project. So keep the suggestions coming.

What kind of power did this put out? What is your engine setup?

How much power did that motor lose going to the smaller cam and motor?

Re: What's the best cam for a 427 stroker....

that 232/236 is pretty small (I would run it in my 346 if P-to-V would not be a problem...)

I also vote something in the mid 240s....that seems to be pretty common for engines with 400+ CIs...

Go with MTI S1 cam that i run in my 427 A4 with specs of 244/244, .612 lift on a 112lsa. On my A4 i have never stalled on the street and the cam makes huge power and with your M6 tranny you should be golden. :eek2: :drive:

Go solid roller  I can drive mine without issue (except some 2-footed driving while cold), and it makes every cam on this page look *tiny*. And yes, it is an auto, and I run my a/c a lot here in Texas.
