4" safely.
4.100"/4.125" with a excellent builder who knows what needs to be done to the pistons to make them last.
4.185"/4.250" is almost unrealistic, but it has been done. I don't imagine th erings would last long at all, and it would probably drink oil like a 70's ford.

He pretty much covered the bases with the strokes, as for the bore 3.905-3.910 depending on block year. You can do the math yourself to get the CI.

so realistically a 400+ ci engine on a stock block is kinda dangerous then? really want to run a 402 or 408 on my stock block so i can keep matchin #'s. 402 is the most possible at 3.910/4.185. btw my car is 2000 so i dont think i have the ls6 block

If you really want to keep the numbers matching stuff (not sure why), just pull it and bag it, then buy any of the other block alternatives (LS2, LQ9, 6.0 iron, etc.). Or you could spend the bucks to have your block sleeved and go all the way up to 4.125.

Or you could just buy the LS7 block (4.125" Bore/Aluminum Block) for under $3000. I've heard of issues with resleeved blocks...

most people keep the bore on as ls2 block around 4.005" and stroke at either 4" or 4.1" the lq4/9 they use the same stroke but usually bore 4.03" but some bore them out to 4.06" or so, magnafluxing them is the best way to see how much material will be left but most can probably be bored out to 4.06" on an average build imo.
you could gut you an l92 bottom end that starts life with around a 4.06x bore and throw in a 4.1" stroke for 426-427 cubes.
check with the vendors on here, they should be able to steer you in the right direction.
