Default How To Gain TQ

Here are my mods, Numbers are in sig

Engine
TSP Cam: 228/232 .588/.595 110+4 | MTI Lid | K&N w/Removed Air Silencer | P&P TB | TB Body By-Pass | Bump Stop Mod | 160 T-Stat | ASP Pulley
Exhaust (3" True Duals Under The Axel)
QTP LTs | Custom 3" O/R H Pipe | Flowmaster 1 Chamber Mufflers | GMMG Tips

With my cam, my car has no UMP to it under 3K... What can i do to gain some TQ back? Still on stock 3.42s too

Thanks

^ Maybe a nicely syamesed (sp?) Y pipe insead of the H, to help draw out some more EXH from that lift.

and yeah.. gears... Mine actually makes some nice TQ under 3k (I think).. But seems to flatten out for a second at 3000. Even w/ the stock cam.

You got heads?? That could be some of the issue.

Head work. Especially valves, valve job and mill them .035" to get the compression ratio up. Will need shorter pushrods also. And as stated above, more gear.

More lift on either lobe will not help him any since he has stock heads. And the H-pipe dual exhaust routinely has better torque than a Y-pipe single exhaust.

^huh.. OK, I stand corrected.. I was thinking slightly more lift on the EXH side, but I REALLY don't think he's up for another cam swap just for a LITTLE more. It wouldn't be worth it, the heads should help a lot.

Yes i am a M6 car, was going to go with 4.10s Heads right now are not in the budget. I am expecting a baby in January.

The H pipe will out flow any y pipe set up. But i were to heads, yes i would get TSP Ls6 heads, and mill them like someone said to raise the DCR.

Keep the ideas coming

SVO 43lb/hr injectors.... just my $0.02 ... Use the theroy of BHP, drop the last # to get inj size. as in, 430hp = 43lb injectors.

Did TSP tell you what to expect below 3000? Did you ask?

You picked up peak torque and peak hp numbers with the TSP cam evidently at the expense of sub-3000 rpm torque and drivability. This is a common thing. If you looked at the average torque from say 2200-4200 and compared that to stock you probably would see the problem.

Tell your cam designer how you want the car to perform and how you drive it. A cam could be spec'd that gave you more average torque from ~2200 up and still gave good average hp. You might be down a few ponies at peak, so bragging rights might be less, but the car could be much more fun to drive, and perhaps quicker overall.

Peak dyno numbers sell a lot of cams. More's the pity.

Get rid of the TSP cam.

Get heads, mill them if you can with that cam.

Gears will make the car feel stronger at Low RPM's.

I'm about to run an almost identical cam to that, but with a set of extensively ported high velocity heads..

I'd say leave it until you get a set of heads with the best overall flow numbers and smallest runner for that flow (especially low and mid lift) and bump the compression as high as P to V will allow. I've had my cam for some time now waiting for things to be finished up and while i've been waiting i've seen several cars make good numbers hp and tq wise wise with a decent set of heads and more compression (static and dynamic).

Never called TSP about this cam. there was a cam graph that i did the comparison too. And asked some people with almost the same cam.

As soon as the car hits 2800 RPMs hold on, cause the fvker is going. But under that no TQ at all. And the car has no drivability issues at all. with the exception of the bucking every now and then, but i learned not to be in that RPM range.

If you want stock-like drivability, you really should have left it stock. You don't get something for nothing in this world...that holds especially true for cars. If you want the torque back, you'll need heads that have been milled to bump up your compression ratio, and most likely some gears in the back. If you really want torque, step up the displacement

I think that cam really likes more compression (when and if you decide to do heads).

Gears. As a test I'm switching from 3.42 to 3.90 in the next few weeks, so I'll let ya know.

HP/TQ from 2800 rpm's up is about as good as it gets.

Good luck..WeathermanShawn..

You could always hit it with some juice or boost. or a combonation of both.
