Default What do i bore 5.3L to, so i can make 5.7L?

I think Im suppose to bore the 5.3L out to 3.910 is that correct? I know the LS1 is 3.900 but isnt the hole slightly bigger? I have a LS1 alum block but its cracked and wanna transfer everything over to the iron block. Thanks need help asap!

Stock is 3.898. Popular aftermarket pistons come in 3.903, 3.905, 3.908 overbore sizes.

Not sure about what precautions to take when boring out that much...

well the 5.3 is thicker, bored to 3.910 the walls will be just as thick as the LS1 + they are stronger.

You said its an iron block? If so, it dosnt have steel sleeves like the LSx block does.

yes it is an iron block, and the cylinders are still stronger than the LS1's, ive seen those steel sleeves crack plenty of times, if you dont go to the 6.0L iron block and wanna stay 5.7, the 5.3 is the best choice and ive seen so many forced induction cars use it.

Good luck finding an off the shelf 3.910 piston. 3.905 is your best bet and it'll be easy to find pistons.

well you dont want the hole to be the same size as the cylinder, if i bore it 3.905, the piston will be 3.905 cold, but when it heats it will expand, 2 different metals, if i did it the exact bore then it would seize up and i wasnt talkin about a 3.910 piston, just bore.

I believe pistons are rated for the bore they fit in, not their true size. An off t he shelf 3.898 piston would fit in a stock 3.898 bore

I'll be punching my 5.3L out to 3.905 when it goes... I've already dont the research on this and it seems like about the best way to go. tons more piston choices with this bore size...

Or are right.

EDIT: Usually it's a good idea to hone the block to the piston size once you have the pistons and measure them. Helps with manufacturing defects.
