i'm thinking about heads...
 

just curious what you guys think i should go with. i'm shopping for a set of heads for my '01 SS (in sig). it dynoed 417/383 as it sits now. i don't want to have another cam ground to match set of badass heads, i'd rather have a set of heads to go with the cam i already have. this will be probably the final performance mod to my SS before a new motor gets built, so i'd like to make the most of it. 450rwhp and/or 11.2xx or faster 1320' is what i'm after here with stock bottom end and no power adder. just looking for some suggestions from experienced people, thanks :thumb:

whats the budget? and are the heads gonna go on the new motor? if so what is the planned setup (cubes)?

on a budget you can't go wrong with some ported 5.3L heads, should have no problem with ptv with that lift. or a set of Dart 205s.

higher budget its hard to beat the TFS 215s or the AFR 205s...although i'd have them milled to keep compression up

they'll be going on my car as it is in my sig, bone stock bottom end. i'm on a tight budget, but i'm going at it like money grows on trees :lol:. when i find what i want/need, that'll be my budget and i'll work the appropriate amount of overtime :D

i was wanting something like patriot's LS6/5.3 stage 3 setup, but then i thought i'd go all out with a set of ET's 225's or similar...airflow at .600 lift is great, but i was wanting something that flows well all across the board. i do my racing from 25-45mph rolls usually. i go to the track, but just to see what it will do, not compete...

I'd go w/ Patriot heads. You should pick up plenty of trq across the board. You can't beat $1300 for a set of 300+CFM heads. Just keep compression high enough and you should meet your goals.

I'm actually going w/ the Patriot LS6 Stage III heads for my 408 build. I'll let you know how that goes...but I'm shooting for 500rwhp.

that's about what i'm going for...i doubt my little cam will throw down 500, but i'd really like to see 450. as far as bang-for-your-buck, i don't know who can beat Patriot. that's probably what i'll end up getting, a stg. III LS6 head from them...

anybody know anything about Cartek heads? i've been looking at their site and the specs/info is a little vague....

just curious if anyone is running their 3x heads or similar and what they think. i'd like to see some flowbench #s too...

BUT SERIOUSLY.....Cartek heads, anybody...? anything else i should consider...

i really like the new edelbrock heads...

just check the flow rates and pick one with good numbers at your lift (.600). dont just look at the peaks either check the curve, look for .450-.550 numbers cause thats where you cam spends most of its time!

also makw sure they are tested at same inches of water and with the same size exhaust pipe. bumping these numbers give huge (false) readings to help sell heads... try to compare apples to apples! :headbang:

that's what i'm after, is the best .250-.550 numbers. my cam isn't exactly a monster. i need all the low and mid-range i can get.

no i want gains all around, especially down low and in the mid-range. peak numbers aren't what matter most, but they do matter. i want the best bang for my buck basically...with something that my cam/intake will work with.
