Default Bearings

I just got my bearings today, and they look discolored. They are brand new, sitll wrapped and boxed...just wondering if this is normal/any prep to them before installation.

They are still smooth, no rust or anything...just some weird coloring, i'd expect them to be polished.

I guess you mean rod and main bearings?
I've seen it before, it's normal. For prep spray them off with brake cleaner and compressed air, it's best to not use a rag or anything. Then put them in place and apply assembly lube.

Not using assembly lube, heard too much about it gunking up pickup tube screens. Using SAE 30.

Then SAE 30 is your assembly lube

I've seen it all from moly paste to thick red slime, my definition of assembly lube is whatever lube you use during assembly.
