Choosing what head's and cam and stall to go with

I was just wondering what all everyone else has been running and what has been the best street wise. ive got a 2000 ss a4 44k 3.73 gears hooker long tube headers slp lid. i was wondering what size cam and wat size stall i was thinking 2500. and what kind of head's should i go with ?????? let me know thanks

2500 is a very small stall for these cars. Honestly on here most people will tell you to go with at least a 3200 vigi or yank converter if you want to do it right.

I have a 3800 stall, ms3 cam, and cnc ported ls6 heads. I put down almost 430hp. I have 4.10's. This thing is a monster.

well i really need this to be a every day driver also. and i am ordering nito's 555r's once i deciede on what wheels i want. i havent had the car tuned yet with the mods i have done and it ran 8.64 street tires 90 degree temp. i am getting it tuned this week soo hopefully that helps it. so as far as a mild cam what the spec on that ?? like i said i reall dont want to put a stall in it.

CheaTR, no need for stall (From Thunder)
Or
LPE GT-11 cam

You can throw any (within reason of course) midsize cam in your car and not "need" a stall. Will an aftermarket 3200-3600 stall make your car A LOT faster, yes. The stock one will be holding you back tremendously. I havent yet felt an LS1 with a stall, but there are tons of people on this board daily driving their LS1 with a 3200-3600 stall. Put it this way, would you rather hit it off the line and make XXX amount of power/torque at 2300rpms OR would you rather hit it off the line and make MORE power/torque at a higher rpm because your motor will immediately rise to a higher rpm at WOT. Higher rpm = MORE POWER for the most part (until you reach your peak of course). Get a GOOD vigi or yank 3200-3600 converter, you wont be dissapointed. Do a search, the testimonials speak for themselves...

I drive mine every single day. yank 4000SS, drag suspension, bone stock motor, manifolds, cats and y-pipe. Just a lid and a flowmaster muffler. It runs 12.2 @110 all day long every weekend, and it will burn the hides off of a set of ET Streets, nevermind a set of Nittos. If you buy one single part, you should make it a stall of around 3500rpm. It's like a completely different car/animal.

hmmm that is great info and i really appricate you all helpn. so what do you all think of a yank 3000 and a 228 cam ??

NC98Z Nov 6, 2007 10:30 AM

A Vigalante 3200-3400 stall is very street friendly and still there performance wise if you need it. I've got 3.73s and 4L60E also. You get a free restall within a 2 year period from Percision Industries in case you descide you would like a higher stall later on when you start craving a monster cam. I sent mine back earlier this year for a cleanout after my old tranny fragged out on me and I told them to leave the stall speed alone because it was about perfect.

3200-3600

gooch06 Nov 6, 2007 03:52 PM

hmm see i also have people tellong me to leave it alone and just procharge it ??? any info

93redBIRDman Nov 6, 2007 03:57 PM

^ that would work too haha...

BUT with a centrifugal supercharger you WANT a stall badly. With your stock stall you will hit it off the line and your boost will start low and gradually increase as your rpms increase. With a 3200-3600 GOOD stall you will be into your higher boost immediately when you hit it and it will be MUCH faster.

Procharger + stall ***... lol

id go with a yank 3600, vig 3200 or tci 3000. I put a tci 3000 on my car this year and its awesome, made a huge difference. Drives the same as a stock converter except for its a little loose and takes a little bit of rpm to get it rollin but i like it. As for the driving like stock, it feels close to the same until u get on it. As for cam, i just ordered a 228/232 .588/.592 110+4 lsa from texas speed and ill let u know how it matches up with this combo. oh and i also have 3.73's like you!
