Default Who has blown stock motor (no power adders)

I know overall the LS1 is pretty durable motor, but in the last 6 months 2 friends have lost their motors one in a 02 camaro with 24k and another 98 vette with close to 60K . Both cars are completely stock not even CAI or cat back. Camaro spun bearing , vette broke a piston on #7. Both guys over 50 and would say overall not driven very hard although I am sure they get on it occasionally. Just was curious who all blew engine on stock internals with no power adders.

Do you know what you broke or damaged when you hurt it?

the 02 broke a piston and the 98 spun the cam bearing, right?

#7 piston is notorious for going. The intake design is biased to give more air to the #7, which will lean out that cylinder.

Spun bearing could have been from bad oil, or wasn't changed frequently.

You have to watch the oil level in these motors. Most consume oil through the PCV. If you let the oil run low and then run high RPMs for a while - spun bearing.

Im assuming from that over rev (downshift forced over rev) it jerked one of the pistons to the side. when I took the motor apart, the wrist pin boss was worn side to side, and from the piston walking back and forth like that, the piston eventually cracked and shattered, and took out the cylinder wall. Also when I over revved it, the engine ate a quart of oil (it was full when I began the lap and was a quart low after). So be careful! It always ticked after that when the engine was hot (after a bit I continued beating on the engine) and I just assumed it was a bent pushrod or something since I didnt really have time to look into it (nor the knowledge at the time, really)

My H/C car broke #3 and #5 @ 51K. Those cylider walls were cracked also. I heard a light tapping (like a rod bearing or valve train noise) prior to making another 1/4 mile pass. I know .. not smart. Also, it did back fire radomly after the one pass. The back fires were because the spark plug gap got closed from the piece of piston floating around. After the last pass it really became obvious the motor was hurt .. still ran an 11.8 but only 107 mph

I believe the LS6 block fixed the #7 issue.

The LS6 intake fixed the problem. Not the block. The lines were rerouted

I thought the LS6 block had some sort of fix for additional cooling of certain cylinders.
