Default Best cam for TSP 5.3 heads. choices inside

Im looking at pretty much going with either of these 3 to match a pair of PRC stage 2.5 5.3 heads from texas speed.

Thunder racing Reverse Split 227/224 .569/.563 114 LSA (would get custom 112 lsa)

Texas Speed 228R

Custom 228/230 600/600 112

It is for my 04 GTO. I will also have 3.91 gears done at the same time, maybe before purchasing a cam. I dont want to regret going too small, but i dont want the car to rattle my teeth out at idle.

I understand that shorter durations are better for these high compression heads bc 1- clearance and 2- they create better dynamic compression... if i am wrong let me know. Im shopping around right now so im open to new ideas.

I hardly ever go to the track, i just want a really fast street car... would like to put down as close to 440 at the wheels as possible.... is it doable with these ?

Other suggestions welcome, please state your reason for suggesting something different.

i'd go with the 228 or the 228/230

both should be very calm cams on the street with good tuning. and they will take advantage of the flow potential of the heads.

the first cam choice has pretty low lift.

I just put the TR230 reverse split in my car w/ the PRC 5.3 2.5's. The car made 422rwhp and 383ft/lbs thru a 9 inch w/ 4.10's and on a mustang dyno. Also have stock gaskets on there. Cam is super streetable and pulls thru 6500.

id go with the ms3. it does really well with those heads. just ask for the 5.3 heads and ms3 package, and they will also raise the valves on the heads so that the cam will clear without flycutting.

I vote custom or an MS3. Search through the dyno area, alot of people have made good power with the ms3.

The 228 will have good street manners and with a 112 LSA it will have just enough lope to sound kool..you will reach your goal of 440 rwhp with that H/C combo and will have a nice quick street car too...

Did you have the heads milled?

i say go custom cam. i did well am anyways. it suited my driving style better then the off the shelf cam. i got a lower lobe seperation w/ some advance ground in and a lil less duration so my numbers would be higher in the lower rpms rather then getting a cam that maxs where i wont use it. ( im not planning on revin over 6400 rpms ) and need power in the street for daily driving)

just my .02$

Im about in the same boat, i dont want to run it over 6700 ill probably shift at 6500 and have the limiter set at 6800 so i dont hit fuel cut off and bog down... i hate that.

most of the cars ill run with will be boosted so they jump out pretty fast from a 40 punch. Id like to get more mid/top range snap out of the hole i think a custom may be in order
