What do you really gain with Lunati stroker vs. good h/c ? If you can make 430 rwhp thru an auto trans and 12 bolt, what would you gain with a Lunati 383 kit? If you have this set up,please post your numbers.I wonder if it is worth the $3K plus price for the kit. |
Re: What do you really gain with Lunati stroker vs. good h/c ? Maybe a little more HP but you will gain lots of torque across the board. |
Re: What do you really gain with Lunati stroker vs. good h/c ? I haven't had the chance to get my setup tuned yet or run it at the track. I'll post and let you know what it does in this 90 degree weather with no tuning. The real numbers will out in the fall... |
Re: What do you really gain with Lunati stroker vs. good h/c ? About 1-1.25 ft Lb of torque per ci increase. So for a 383 about 35-40RWTQ possibly similar HP. Also you can go larger on the cam that with a HC car but maintain better driveability. Cheers, Chris |
Re: What do you really gain with Lunati stroker vs. good h/c ? Our last 383 car put 434hp to the wheels after the 383 rotating assembly and a little bigger cam. Before the stroker it put consistant mid 380s to the wheels with heads & cam. The heads are the same cam, all we did was 383 rotating assembly, and a little bigger cam :) |
Re: What do you really gain with Lunati stroker vs. good h/c ? That was a automatic also by the way :) |
Re: What do you really gain with Lunati stroker vs. good h/c ? Jason: Interesting... is there any machining to the block that is necessary on the 383 projects ...is this usually just a clean up of the bores...or do most go with a new block? |
Re: What do you really gain with Lunati stroker vs. good h/c ? I just got a 383 lunati kit and MTI LS6 Stage 2 heads installed on my 99 Trans Am. It made 458rwhp/448rwtq peak. Horsepower got to 400 at 4700rpm, 450 at 5500rpm, and slides back to 440 at 6500rpm. Torque got to 400 at 3200rpm, 440 at 3800rpm, 450 at 4900rpm, and then drops to 400 at 6000rpm, 360 at 6500rpm. Re: What do you really gain with Lunati stroker vs. good h/c ? What you gain?? Area under the curve. |
Re: What do you really gain with Lunati stroker vs. good h/c ? My previous setup was Stage 1 heads and C2 cam from MTI with all my sig bolt-ons, but through a 10-bolt rear w/3.73 gears. That combo made 400rwhp at 5500rpm, peaked to 421rwhp at 5900rpm, and backed down to 410rwhp at 6500rpm. Torque was 370rwtq at 3200rpm, 390 at 3800rpm, 401 at 4900, 365 at 6000rpm, and 335 at 6500. So I picked up 40+ ft.lbs. of torque just about everywhere in the powerband. Horsepower was up everywhere as well, with the peak going from 421 to 458. I have the FLP 2 1/2 Y-Pipe right now, when I get a 3 inch Y-Pipe, I should pick up some more hp, might get to 470rwhp. Randy :drive: |

Re: What do you really gain with Lunati stroker vs. good h/c ? You gain massive torque, EVERYWHERE over a H/C setup. Torque puts you down the track. Torque is a function of horsepower, if you put down more torque everywhere then you're making more horsepower everywhere. H/C setups that dyno a lot of peak HP have nowhere near the torque that bigger cubes have. |
Re: What do you really gain with Lunati stroker vs. good h/c ? Thanks for the help gentlemen.Very impressive results. 40/50 hp and great torque over a h/c only package seem to be a good advantage.I have heard that an all bore 383 will be faster than a 383 stroker but you then have to deal with all the sleeve/Darton problems.I guess if you go for the bore you might as well stroke it too. Mark, get that thing tuned and we can correct your numbers for the heat.I wish you great luck with your new stroker. |
Re: What do you really gain with Lunati stroker vs. good h/c ? Go with the 383 Luanti kit if u want massive 1/4 times... |

Re: What do you really gain with Lunati stroker vs. good h/c ? you get better drivability as well. |
Re: What do you really gain with Lunati stroker vs. good h/c ? Bear, you cant beat the sound of that "409". She's real fine,my 409." |
Re: What do you really gain with Lunati stroker vs. good h/c ? hey pewter , how does your car drive with the big X-ER , and off the record isnt that pretty much the G5x2 but cheaper i am super curious as to see how your car runs and drives with that cam let us know asap please ! |
