Piston Slap? How about a little help here.
Allright, I have done my research on this, but didn't come up with what I was looking for. I have an 00 WS6 and it doesn't matter what the temp is, i get the noise. It sounds very similar to piston slap. It usually starts after my cars is started and runs a minute or two. It isn't immediate. Once it starts, it doesn' stop, it does it until I turn the car off. It's not real loud but is very noticeable. It is louder on colder start up. Any opinions on what I should try and do to fix it?

If it's sounding like it's slapping the whole time it's running you may have a collapsed lifter or a leak in your exhaust manifold. You wouldn't think so but a leaking exhaust manifold gasket sounds alot like piston slap or a dead lifter IMO

Usually these motors will start up and run a few seconds and then the piston slap noise starts and last a minute at the most. The heat from the combustion chamber warms up the piston and it expands and the noise will go away. It will not hurt anything. My friend has a 99 T/A with 95,000 miles and it has made piston slap noise since it was new. It was bought new and is still stock and a daily driver. It runs perfect and has no oil consumption issuese. I have 147,000 + on my 2000 Z28. It is a heads/cam with all the bolt ons and has been treated like a hot rod it whole life and gets run hard regularly. Has piston slap for about 30-40 seconds when it is cold. It uses a half a quart of oil every 5,000 miles. Piston slap make sound like crap but it is normal on these engines and should not be anything to worry about.

pretty sure all gm ls based engines have this problem. its the hypereuthetic pistons. they just take a lil while to warm up due to the materials they're made up of, a mixture of silicone and aluminum. it wont harm your car. its perfectly normal.

it becuase in 2001 gm stop make each piston for each block they made them all the same so some of the ls1 had core shift and cuased piston slap
