Installing a ASP UD pulley in a automatic car. I've used the Summit tool to hold the crank pulley while tightening bolt in the past. That tool won't work with the ASP pulley. Does anyone have a trick to tightening the bolt with the aftermarket pulley.

What I an asking is in a auto car the torque converter spins freely so how do you hold the crankshaft while tightening the bolt?

Drop the starter and use a big screwdriver/pry bar (or the GM tool) to hold the flexplate in place.

or use your old belt and put the waterpump back on and rig it so the belt keeps it from spinning.

Buy the correct tool to engage the teeth in the flywheel. Its a few bucks up front and prevents possible problems. Problems caused by using incorrect tools or jury rigged methods tend to cost more in the end.

I have the flywheel too also. GM wont be changing anything for a while so im sure it will be usable on future GM V8's.

I just used a chain, and wrapped it around the sway bar. I has always worked great.

i recomend the gm flywheel holdin tool makes it a breeze

I had the fortune of being able to use a lift. I made the rear tires touch the ground while in fifth gear and used a 2ft breaker bar. Good luck.

Big impact wrench and loctite here. Not saying it's the correct method, but it's not coming back out either.

use the threaded rod method. Not fun drilling out and helicoiling the crank. The screwdriver trick works, but if you can get the tool, even better.

^^I should add that I made certain it was well seated and plenty of threads started before I cranked down on it. I heated my ASP pulley in the oven and it slid on like butter. Once everything was situated, I cranked her down and then let the impact wrench hit on it for 30 seconds or so. It'll come back out if I ever need it to, but not on it's own.
