Chatter under the valve cover I have Yella Terra rockers installed on recent stage II head/cam 222/222 114 LSA upgrade with Comp Coms 7.400 chromemoly pushrods Wanted to know if they make lots of noise at idle and under load? |
Re: Chatter under the valve cover I guess no has these installed? |
Re: Chatter under the valve cover are you saing it HAS a lot of noise or are you wanting to know if it will..... my TR224 cam, same pushrods, and 987 springs make A LOT of noise (still have factory rockers).....its just the nature of a head/cam car.... |
Re: Chatter under the valve cover Yes, both. I guess I'm still getting use to the extra noise. One more question, does it sound like a bad push rod/lose rocker as car goes back to lower RPMs? Just trying to make sure. |
Re: Chatter under the valve cover yeah.....kind of a "tick tick tick" sound that speeds up as you throttle on (follows RPM)..... the fast ramp rates of the car, the hard pushrods, and the valves with higher rate springs (shut harder and faster) all add up to A LOT of noise and with the aluminum block and heads, sound just seems to eco around like in a cave.... ;) |
Re: Chatter under the valve cover Thanks. Even more exaggerated by the long tubes. |
Re: Chatter under the valve cover How much lifter preload are you running? My TR224 with Yella Terra's makes no noise at all. |
Re: Chatter under the valve cover I don't know :emb: I had a shop do it with the other mods. Its a Comp cam 222/222 LSA 114 with double springs. Raging Motor Sports Stage II heads. Its louder than stock and when I take my foot off the pedal, its sounds fugly, like a loose rocker or bent push rod. My guess... |
Re: Chatter under the valve cover I had a bad lifter. I was able to figure out which side with the stethoscope |
Re: Chatter under the valve cover ...my terra yellers are not noisy! |
Re: Chatter under the valve cover Dam it. :bang: Its been a bad month... |
Re: Chatter under the valve cover HardBlue: I too have Raging MotorSports SII 5.3 heads with 987's, 1.7 yella terra rockers, and all the bells and whistles, and i have the normal sewing machine sound still. Just live with it, just like someone else said above, "Its the nature of a Heads/cam car." If you feel real sure that you may have something wrong, take a valve cover off and inspect your pushrods, who knows, you may have a bent one? Have Fun, P.S. give mark a call, he will be happy to help you out as best as he can over the phone. |
Re: Chatter under the valve cover Dude expect some more noise than stock. Especially with the XE cams. For piece of mind, pull the covers and double check the rockers torque. It dont take long and you will KNOW if your OK. Again expect some more noise than normal. Good luck |
