Default ls6 springs with tr 224 cam

ive got a 00 ta with a tr 224/224 112 cam and was wondering how the newest ls6 springs rated at .580 lift with be with that cam.as far as changing them every so often,im not worried about that. just curious how it would be and how quiet that setup would be.

While the max lift appears to be adequate, the TR 224 uses a far more aggressive lobe than an LS6 cam. Definitely go with more spring.

i would go with a double spring just in case, a friend of mine dropped a valve with 918's and that cam, but he also didn't warm up the car, lol.

um, as far as i understand, having a stiffer spring on a cam that doesnt need it is not a good thing...

it's not a good thing, but I personally would go with a better spring since i like to stay on the safe side, and wouldn't wanna go through the hassle of pulling the head(s) off.

Do as you wish, just my .02,

I run Patriot Gold duals on mine. Wouldn't run anything else except a set of PRC duals from TSP either. The 224r from Thunder has more aggressive lobes & a faster ramp rate. You will not hurt a single thing by running a stiffer spring. And you'll actually have better valve control at higher RPM's.

VS a beehive that couldn't be further from the truth. You need the RIGHT spring and overkill on springs is damaging to your lifters/valves at the long run.

To answer the original post, those springs will work with that cam if installed at the proper height to produce the open pressures needed. Meaning you might need to shim them.

Really? I was under the impression that its ideal to not run a spring thats almost maxed at the same numbers as the cams lift, especially with the faster ramp rate. I might have just misunderstood.

I also just noticed after lookin at Thunders site that the lift is only .563" on that cam, so he should be alright. I was thinking about the 224r from TSP which is what I have. And I knew the lift was higher than the LS6 is rated at, my bad.

Mike, when deciding on a spring you do not just look at lift capabilities. What you should look at are the closed and open pressures. If those are at or slightly above the cam lobe reqirements, you are good to go.
