Default How many of you ACTUALLY degree your cam install?

I'm wondering... I'll have the heads off, so it's be easier to find TDC w/ a depth micrometer (Forgot the name)..

The cam.. 224/228 .637 .639 110+0

I know it's just insurance to be sure everything is working properly, but I'm not a PRO builder..

Sorry if this is a stupid Q..

I degreed mine. With a stock timing chain it was dead on. It gave me peace of mind though. It's a Comp 228/230 XRE on 110+1.

If the heads will be off, yes degree it. Otherwise dot-to-dot here.

I have the XER version of your cam, and I did not. I advanced it ~2 degrees based on the timing marks on the Cloyes Hex-a-just timing set. In reality, I guess it could easily be anywhere from 0 – 4 degrees advanced. I did check PTVC. In the future I will degree the cam. I should have on this install, but I was too impatient and sick of spending money.

I always recommend that you degree it, takes very little time for a lot of insurance.

Even if you degree it and have a stock timing set, there's no adjustment. That's like changing out the heads and measuring the bore size of your stock motor, just to make sure.

We dot-to-dot'd -=MOD=-'s MS4 and that thing still runs like a champ.

Good point.. I've heard that the MS4's have actually been degree'd close to 109 LSA...

THat's what I was thinking..

On a side note, would my stock timing chain be OK to re use?? What's it good to?

The dots are there for a reason.... line them up and move on

(some) People are woried about as little as half degrees....but use a used stock single roller timing chain. Thats like wiping BEFORE you ****.......it makes no sense.

the only way you could **** up going dot to dot was if the dot on the bottom wheel was off and didnt represent TDC #1, in which case you motor would be running like **** if at all before you tore it down. I could see degreeing the cam being important while building a new engine that hasnt been running before though, just to be sure you didnt **** something else up. Or you could be a dumbass and think that dot to dot means perpendicular or some ****. Or adjustable sets, like stated above.
