LS1 to LS6 Swap I currently have a 2002 Camaro Z28 that does not have an engine. Instead of putting an LS1 back into it, I was wondering how in depth the process is to just drop an LS6 in instead. I already know that a few things need to be changed, oil pans, bushings, etc. I guess what I am really after is an in depth guide to doing the swap so I'm not sitting on my thumb because I ran out of money due to a ton of hidden costs. I'm probably going to have a shop do the swap and dyno-tune it anyway because I don't exactly have the means to do it all myself. Any feedback or insight would be more than helpful to me, especially the guide so I at least know what's going on and the approximate cost. Thank you, Josh |
i dont think its that hard. But if theres no motor and you can build whatever you want, do you really wanto keep it a 346?... |
An ls1 and a ls6 are exactly the same physically so you do not have to change oil pans unless the engine is out of a corvette, not sure what you mean by bushings ? |
Correct, many of the later fbodies have LS6 blocks. As said, if you mean a corvette engine or a z06 corvette ls6 engine, oil pan is about it. For the z06, a tune also. |
This is a conversion my friend Levi did on a local guy from Columbia, MO (I helped out a little:D). He has a 99 T/A and swapped out the LS1/A4 with a crate LS6 and T56. https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...389&highlight= If I remember correctly the only thing he had to change was the oil pan, dipstick and UD pulley. |
It seems like a good idea and everything, but I'd probably just throw in a modified LS1.. |
It's actually very simple, my car is in the process of having an LS6 put in also. Your best bet is to buy the whole long block with everything on it already with the CTS-V oil pan and then just swap them out, other than that all you will need to do is get it flashed with the ZO6 tune if it is the 405 horse version and you are good to go. |
I have an LS6 engine i will install it soon but not stock its all same only heads , cam , and few things |
