Can you re-use torque to yeild head bolts if they haven't been heat cycled? Just like the title says. I just bolted some heads down and I am suspect of one head possibly being warped. I thought it was getting hung up some on the dowls but I need to recheck it for peace of mind. Can I reuse the same bolts since they have never been heat cycled? I usually use ARP bolts and have never ran into this problem before, hense the dumb question. |
No, TTY bolts are made to stretch in betweeen passes of torque applied to them, although they may have not been heat cylcled they have stretched. I would reccommend new bolts... |
No. Heat cycling doesn't matter with TTY head bolts. You must buy new ones the moment you torque them and remove them. |
The key word in TTY is yield...you've induced failure in the bolt, and they need to be replaced. |
No sir, you can not. |
what must one do with used head bolts? are they just trash or can they be used for anything at all?? |

Get a set of ARP bolts or studs and never buy them again. |
Thanks guys. I guess this car is going to sit in my garage for another two days. I use ARP's but I can't dictate what the customer buys. Plus this car is supposed to be as stock looking as possible from all angles. Randy. What kind of power on motor are you making? I just screwed together a 416. Our set up's are actually not that similar but I would like to know how your combo does compared to mine. |
Not had it to a dino yet, but i has massive torque NA |
