I want to buy an x1 cam from MTI. And I would like to have somebody with a little know how help me put it in....the key is that I want to do some of the work.... but I dont have all the tools or all the skills and need someone with both. I dont want to pay $450 to have a shop put it in...only to have to pay anothe $450 for tuning!!! ouch...I would however be willing to pay somebody for the use of their driveway or garage, their skills and help( I will do all the work If you provide tools and know how).....maybe $200. Of course I may need an extra hand on a few things....but I would try to do most of the work myself.... I would like to maybe do this on the sunday after Labor day weekend...because I have tuning time schedules for that monday. If interested please e-mail me or send me a Private Message.
The Price is negotiable...and Maybe we could work out something else I could do in return.

If you want to drive to OKC, I'll let you use my shop and show you how for $200. I've done over 10 cam installs. It's around a 6 hour drive. I know because I bought one of my cars at Superior Chevy in KC and drove it back home.

there are a few guys on mogmhp.com/forums that will help you out for a few bucks and some beer (gots to have that). i know of a guy in KC that has that same cam in his TA. go register on mogmhp and tell them "gator" sent ya - they love me on that board

How many horror stories do you see on the forum about cam installs gone wrong? Exactly. I do all my R&R on my car except when it comes to a cam swap. Check out what the price is to replace an engine....$450 is a pretty small assurance for "peace of mind" to have a pro do it!!!!!

With a cam change your going to need springs, gaskets, pushrods, timing chain, and you might as well put in a ported oil pump. That is a long Sunday in my opinion. When I did mine I took my time and cleaned everything up over the course of about 3 afternoons and evenings. But I am slow, but I double check everything. You only want to do this once! So do it right the first time. If you aren't confident in your skill, get a recomended shop that works on LS1's to do the work.

I had Mark(Raging Motorsports) install and tune the cam in my car. I could have done it myself, but I wasn't sure as to what I was getting into. So... instead of doing it wrong and having to have a "pro" do it anyway, I just decided to let a "pro" do it in the first place. That Way I just pay for it once, rather than twice. With the exception of the cam, tuning, and rear-end, I have done all the other mods myself. Believe me... there is plenty more for you to do in order to be involved with a cool car. This is an area where you don't want to skimp.

ok I have some gusy from MOGMHP.com helping me out..... gonna make it a BBQ....workin on it saturday the 6th and sunday the 7th...goin in for an early morning oil change...and a dyno tune at noon on monday.....Its really gonna rock!!!.....

Should I change the oil pump at the same time since its only a few more bolts????

Good luck. I'm pretty much in the same boat but got some people to help out.

You can also go to www.ls1howto.com and they give you detail instructions with pictures how to install a camshaft using 3 methods. They perfer the Cam replacement tool from thunder racing. Looking at the install insructions it seems to be a breeze. No worrys with the lifters falling or anything.

we are planning on starting in on it on saturday evening after I get done with day job....and working till its done...at leats I will be.... and then starting it up on sunday morning....get it up to temp...turn it back off...let it cool down...... start it back up around noon or 1pm....start the BBQ...watch the game.......after the game take it for a spin(NO WOT yet)(heat cycling the springs so they last longer... get it good and hot...then a few WOT.... take it for an oil change monday morning (00blackbird has the hookup on that). and Finally Dyno tune at Raging at Noon....All invited to come see the #'s(hoping for big...)

BTW, I helped a buddy do a head/cam/converter swap a few months ago. That took awhile.
