Rocker arm bolt broke off in head, wtf?

Alright, so I've been getting this misfire that got progressively worse. I pull the valve cover and my Yella Terra rocker arm for cylinder 5 is just sitting there. Both bolts broke off in the head. What the hell? I can't think of any reason for this to happen. Cylinder 4 misfired some under 1500 RPM, but I'm hoping it is was just echoes from cylinder 5. I'm going to drill the hole and get an Easy Out thing to get the bolt out, will any bolt work, or will I need some from a dealer? I can't think of any reason for this to happen, but everything else looks fine. The pushrods are straight, springs look good. There aren't any kind of bearing in the Yella Terras to empty into the motor, are there?

...that blows

consider removing the head and get a machine shop to clear the busted bolt... it may save you time and money in the long run...

Sorry to hear about the problem but at least you know how to fix it. I am sure only (1) failed originally and then the other broke because the shaft raised up. You should be able to get (2) new bolts from the dealer but as a precaution, I would get a complete set and replace all of them. Be sure to torque them properly and you will be all set. Do not just use any old bolt that fits. The YT do have needle bearings but the rocker arm must come off of the shaft for them to come out. I wouldn't worry loosing any bearings.

I broke a bolt off in the rocker arm hole when i was changing valve sprinds, i went to home depot and bought an extractor bit and was able to get the bolt out and luckly didnt strip the threads, you might wanna try this route first b/c the extractor kit was only 10 bucks.

Bolt extractor should pull it right out. Make sure you drill the pilot hole DEADCENTER in the broken stud, put in the extractor and it should come right out.

That can happen if you try to tighten the rockers while the pushrods are riding on a lobe. Ends up bending the bolt and fails after a while. lways tighten them down when both the intake and exhaust are not on the lobes..it's really important.

Shouldn't be too hard to get the bolt ends out though.
