Default Crankshaft Rear Oil Plug Removal

Well I have about 1,000 miles on my engine now and have noticed a little oil on the bottom of the tranny. I pulled it out today and also removed the clutch and flywheel. The rear oil plug in my lunati crank is leaking. I also have oil on my clutch because of it.

What method have you guys used to remove the plug? Can I use a punch and turn it sideways and then pull it out with pliers? I do not want to do anything that could get metal in the engine.

Also is this plug the same size as factory?

Thanks.

It will take a 1in freeze plug. I used a dent pullerTo get the old one out you will need to drill a small hole in the old plug but you will need to put axle grease on the drill bet so it will catch the metal peaces. make sure to put silicone on the new plug. you can use brakleen to clean your clutch up.

Thanks for the info. I don't have a dent puller so I guess I will drill a hole and put a screw in it and pull it out. This is has been such a pain in the *** to do on jack stands. Thanks a lot lunati.

Just some info that might help someone else down the line. I pulled out the plug using a blind puller. One size up from the one I used to pull the pilot bearing. It worked perfect and I did not have to worry about metal in the engine. Definitely the way to go. The plug number is 555-017.

You can use a flathead and a hammer and turn it sideways. There is still about a half inch of space behind it and its actually pretty hard to knock it into the pan. I absolutely recommend using RTV sealer around that thing. I always use sealer around them when I install them and have yet have an issue.
