Where's The Engine Number Located? (lq9)
 

I'm going to a junkyard tomorrow to check a couple of VORTEC 6000 engines.

Where in the engine should i find the engine number?

And how many digits it is supose to have?

not sure that LS1/LS2/LT1 etc. is displayed anywhere on the block itself. Pretty sure you have to check the 8 digit casting number behind the left side of the block

What I'm looking for is the serial number. The number that no other of the same blocks has.

below the driver side head the displacement is cast into the block it should say 6.0

good luck finding a lq9 in the salvage yards
u will come across 10 lq4's before 1 lq9

look 317 casting on the heads. if the motor still has the accesories attached u wont see the displacement indicator 6.0 on the front, if it still has flexplate
it will be hard to see the marking also at the back of the block just under the pass. cylinder head, which also reads 6.0
cylender heads 317 will be the easiest to find the engine.
only when u remove the heads will u know what engine u have.
i once bought a lot of 4 engines they were all indentical, one turned out to be lq9, had flat top pistons, others had dish pistons
although some early lq9 did have a 035 head, but are also equipped with 317

I found these numbers at the left side of the block (not the starter side) under the head, close to the trans.

Is this what I'm looking for?

I already have lots of practice and a magic wood stick that I use through the spark plugs holes to feel the piston surface.

Also, I need the engine serial number just to be sure that it match with the car papers, I don't want to be scamed.

ahh I see now. Perhaps you can check the vin number against the engine casting to see if it matches?

And where is the engine casting number?

Is it the one on the pics I atached??
