Default I just had the worst thing happen :(

I just recently saved my *** off for a year to come up with the money to put a new trans in my car and finally got it in Saturday... well, I just went out to move my car and when I did, I started it up and after idling for a couple of minutes, it developed a serious rod knock. I feel sick to my stomach... There is NO way I can afford to even buy a used shortblock right now. I am simply broke. I don't know what to do. I'm not trying to get sympathy here... I just need to vent. This seriously sucks.

Yeah, it's definitely a rod knock. Sounds like someone is tapping a sledgehammer on the side of the block while it's running.

Put it back up on jackstands and double check that the torque converter is tight. Sucks about that bad luck, I know exactly how you feel.

And yes most of it b/c these cars are driven hard and a ton of them are up around the 100K mark now also.

Double check those verter bolts, I've seen that happen before when the bolts are loose!

Defin. check the converter bolts......it happened to me on an old motor, and to a friend of mine on a ls motor.

It may be just a quick fix!

His SIG says M6, so no verter, but still could be pressure plate or flywheel.

Here's another thing I noticed - it has 40PSI of oil pressure at idle warm. If it had a spun bearing, wouldn't the oil pressure be far lower? It's no different than before the knock. The reason I know it's not the clutch/flywheel is because as soon as it started happening, I could smell fuel pretty strongly and the engine would barely run - the SES light came on and I had to hit the gas a couple times to keep it running. Right now, I'm thinking it could possibly be a broken rocker arm/pushrod/lifter on an exhaust valve, which would force exhaust back into the intake and cause all sorts of issues. I'm going to pull the oil filter and drain it when I get home to check for debris and if it's still clean, I'll pull the valve covers and inspect there. I really hope it's something as simple as a bad rocker arm. It only ran for like 4 minutes when this occurred and an hour prior to it happening, I had ran it up to redline a few times with no issues at all.

well if you want to know if it's a bottom-end rotating assy noise, or valvetrain noise, listen for the following:

Valvetrain speed is HALF the bottom-end speed.

Assume 700 RPM idle (adjust as needed)

700 RPM/60 = ~12 Revs/sec bottom end;

700 /60/2 = ~6 revs/sec valvetrain

Listen to how many knocks you hear per second, this should help you determine what's going on.

in some cases, a spun bearing has no "bearing" on oil pressure... I had a spun bearing, along with 3 bent pushrods, a failed lifter, every piston hit by every valve, and my oil pressure was just fine... even did about 15 dyno pulls... in the end, the knocking/clanking/pinging/tapping noises were so loud we decided to pull it off the dyno before a piston shot out the side of the block and pull the engine apart... it's amazing what these things can handle sometimes lol

Good news! I pulled my valve cover on the driver's side and found a broken valve spring, so all I need are a set of new springs and I'm back on the road. I'm DAMN lucky it broke at idle.
