Default Oil pan differences

Hello, I'm hoping someone can tell me what the nub over the oil filter sticking above the pan on the right in the photo is? The pans off an 2007 5.3, the pan on the left is an F body pan I picked up. I'm hoping I can just bolt it on. Any thoughts?

The "nub" is a valve of some sort used to control oil pressure for the DOD/AFM used on the truck the pan came off of. If you are thinking of using that pan on a non-truck app, it has a very deep sump that might hang too low. Just a heads-up...

Sorry I should of been more specific. I'm wondering if I can use the F Body pan on the left that doesn't have that valve. I don't know what the valve does so I'm not sure if I can use a pan that doesn't have one.

Does the engine you're using have DOD/AFM? I just told you what the valve does. IF your engine does not have the above, go ahead and use the F-body pan.

I have no idea what DOD or AFM are.

Edit: after googling it I'm assuming it has to do with dropping cylinders for fuel mileage. I guess this would be a question for the guy doing my harness and computer wether that's being turned off.

Yes you can use the F body pan and pickup tube with the F body windage tray on that engine.

The valve you see is a Pressure relief valve. Its supposed to be a safety if the one in the pump fails or the filter gets clogged.

Most guys block them off. I would delete the dod/afm crap too.
