TRANNY MOUNT PROB, it's not the mount...lol So My car 98 z28 m6 car. Got a little power. Not insane. So I'm driving today. Decide to give her a little hell 1-3 gears. Well 1st to 2nd huge bang. My thoughts. Great there goes my rear. Pull over take a look don't see anything. Go to drive her home, leave in 1st gear shifter comes up about 6 inches in my hand....alright great I blew my 6 month old Prothane mount. Whatever. Lol, go home jack the car up go to take the bolt out that goes through the cross member up into the mount guess what, wasn't there....the bolt was snapped off flush in the mount. So i didn't blow the mount 😂 just snapped the bolt clean in half. So has anyone had this happen, and what did you use as a stronger bolting option. Second question, what trans mounts do you guys have, Prothane vibrated like crazy but stopped a bit after a month, high rpms still vibrates bad though. Stock rubber mount never did, but tore in half in about 15k miles Thanks for reading and the help! |
So nobody.....? |
For the bolt I would go grade 8. I never had problems with my stock tranny mount when I had my built m6 gto. Over 600 rwhp and many 5k launches at the track. Maybe your bolt backed out alittle before it broke. |
Yeah I'm going to order a new trans mount today, and get some new hardware. I just went over most of the car before I started driving it after winter storage about three weeks back. And I've only driven it four times. Checked all the bolts, all torqued. Who knows, maybe just a weak point in it. I'll have to go to the supply store when my new mount comes in |
