If you put a really good digital thermometer on the water loop , without some kind of bypass youll see the temps jumping up then the stat opens and they drop way down, most analog temp gages cant show it.. Then pay attention to your Air/fuel and the digital gage, you'll see a definite diff in the readings on the wideband as the temps change.

Its not that it will typically manifest itself as a problem, but it is hard on the heads and head gaskets, especially aluminum ones.
Havnt tried it on a all AL LS motor but on all the other aluminum engines from a small trials bike to a FZ it definitely matters.

You also need to confirm if the pump has a bypass I've seen them with and without and some come with a bypass passage with a small threaded plug that you put in to block the bypass if your running a heater.

Looped mine because it only took as long as a run to the parts store +5 mins.
