Achieve a BB-like sound with LS2?
Hey guys,
I've been lurking for a few months now, as I started an LS2 swap myself.
Honestly, I'm very unexperienced with the entire LS-engine.
The pace of the build is finally picking up so I'm here with a few questions
At the moment I am ordening a few parts so I can continue the build.
The point of the build is a Rat-rod, that should be noticed when entering a car-meet. I has to be loud en brutal.
Does anybody have experience with the sound of an ls2 without cat's and a straight pipe? Is it 'nice' ?
Or does an ls2 really need a good muffler to get a brutal sound?
What I also love about big V8's is the rumble they make in idle, I guess this isn't really possible to achieve with an injection engine? The firing order is different?
Correct me if im wrong or type horrible mistakes. I'm all fairly new to this, and I'm just an enthousiast that got into LS-engines, not an automotive engineer..
Cheers guys

Two things that affect sound are engine size and cam. These engines range from 4.8 to 6.2 liters stock, so compare that to known engines in that range. Whatever cam is used will determine how ratty it will sound. How much "show" or "go" you want in your combination will be determined by how well you balance out the components used in your build. A well-tuned unmuffled engine will have a nice crisp raspy sound.

Camshaft L/C
Hi, would you be able to replace the camshaft ?
The requirement can be met by a Crower Cams camshaft I use with my specifications.
We use this for a type of "off road" racing producing great low end torque.

We are still deciding about the cam. We'll probably keep it stock for now, as it has to remain somewhat within budget. But in the future we might look after another cam! I'll look up that one you mentioned, thx!
And thx G Atsma for pointing out to me that the sound has ALOT to do with the cam, I wasn't fully aware of that!
