Default This snap ring fell on the floor. Where does it go?

This snap ring fell off the front of the car today while jacking up my car. Never seen a snap ring that wasn't really, really important. So let the guessing being..... where do you think this comes from? Sounded like it bounced off metal a few times before it fell on the floor. Found it on the driver side under the engine bay.

1989 Firebird, LS7 engine with LS1 F-body accessories & Turn One steering pump.

That type obviously goes on the OUTSIDE of wherever it was. Did it fall in front of or in back of the front wheels? Did it hold the pulley to the steering pump? Since you mentioned it...

Power steering pulley is press fit. I read this thread and I didn't see a snap ring like that,

https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-m...pair-pics.html

Definitely came from the car as it hit objects on the way down.

Keep the guesses coming!

Looks like a snap ring for a rocker arm. Do the rocker arms have a trunnion upgrade and was that just one that mistakenly was lost during previous work?

I have Mamo's Yella Terra rockers. It just so happens I had the valvetrain apart a few weeks ago. I'll pop off the valve covers to inspect.

I just dismounted and inspected the brake master cylinder and the snap ring is in place.

This was my first thought when I saw the pic of the snap ring as well. FWIW Iíve had trunnion kits that included an extra snap ring in the parts bag.

Boy, I thought you guys nailed it when I took the valve covers off and saw the snap rings. Very similar but not the same. And all the snap rings are in place on the rockers.

I double checked my old engine that had a L92 rocker trunion upgrade, but those are quite different and all are in place.

I used to but not this round. AC has been deleted with the latest engine.

Well I'm running out of possibilities here and I still think it was coincidence that it hit the shop floor.

QwkTrip, the reason I mentioned the extra snap ring in my recent trunnion kits was in case you found all of yours in place. The spare ring might have been loose somewhere. But if youíre sure yours are different, then I guess that wouldnít be it it. But I zoomed in on your pic and that looks a lot like what comes with the various trunnion kits Iíve seen.

You'd win the bet. It came from my floor jack. I had to completely disassemble the jack to get to the location and it's harder than heck to put together the jack again. It's an old jack that leaks a little bit, and wasn't very expensive in the first place. I always wanted a really nice floor jack so I'm ordering one up.
