Anyone ever use the LY6 VVT cam in a 4.8/5.3?

I was wondering if anyone has bothered using the cam out of the LY6/L96/L92 and put it one of the smaller VVT motors (L20, LH9, LMF).

I know it's designed for rectangle port heads and has 12* of exhaust bias, but the ever-popular LS2/6 cam has 14* of exhaust bias so it's a non-factor.

The LY6/L96/L92 cam is a 196/208 116LSA .467"/.479" with 1.7 rockers... goes up to .508"/.521" with 1.85 rockers... which is essentially the 1998-2000 LS1 cam, but with VVT.

If anyone has done this, I would love to hear how it turned out.

I'm no expert, but don't see why it would not work.
According to the Summit specs site, the L92 is 198/209, .500/.500, 115LSA. Just sayin'...

I've seen the specs listed as 198/209 .500/.501 before, too. Either way it's an improvement over the 4.8/5.3 cam, and I would honestly be surprised if nobody has tried it in the smaller engines. It doesn't seem like it would be that bad with the 1.85 rockers.

I'd steer clear of increasing rocker arm ratio on LS engines. Its the flaw of the LS7 head and why they drop valves and eat guides. Regarding the cam swap its something I did consider once as I have a pile of stock L92 cams now but you can purchase one of the summit truck cams for low cost now that will perform substantially better albeit non VVT. If your looking for gains? Add cubes its about the same work as swapping cams and a lot easier imo as you can dress the new engine on the stand and re/re in one easy day and you'll make tons more jam.

As with any performance program its important to set goals out before you start. I could see you gaining 20-30hp up top on a 4.8 with the L92 cam but I think it will suffer down low.

I know it's always better to let the cam do the work, not the rockers, but I didn't realize it was that detrimental to up the rocker ratio.

I was even thinking that you could increase the diameter of the roller on the lifters, as well as increase the rocker ratio, in order to spice up the cam. It's a good idea to replace the lifters anyways, might as well increase the roller diameter.

Obviously could just get a spicier cam custom made, I like the idea of seeing what the factory cams are capable of. I doubt that 1.85 rockers and 0.80 rollers will be enough to interfere with the functionality of the VVT system or PTV clearance given how tame the factory cams are.

Good luck with all that
