HP Tuners the only way to adjust my rev limit?

Default HP Tuners the only way to adjust my rev limit?

I had my 68 Chevelle LS2 super charge build dyno tuned in Utah a few years ago. I've moved a couple times since then and now in the Phoenix area.

I'm about to install some new custom heads and my builder suggests I can go to 7500+ RPM no problem with the heads, cam, springs, push rods, etc. My current rev limit is set to 6500 RPM.

I've never used any of the tuning tools myself and was wondering if I should just buy HP Tuners or is there any other way to make adjustments like RPM rev limit? Thanks for the inputs and suggestions.

If your doing a new set of heads, id think you d want to just get the whole set up retuned...than itd be the time to change your rev limiter too. Sounds like a cool build. Any more details or pics on it?

Yes.

HP Tuner is a great tool, but don't underestimate its complexity. It literally takes years of experience to become highly proficient with it. I'd recommend you select a good tuner to rework it for you - unless your idea of hot-rod fun is spending dozens and dozens of hours reading about various tuning strategies, and dozens more hours over the course of months fiddle ******* with your tune.

Nothing against that, by the way - that IS my idea of fun, but it certainly isn't everybody's!!

Great inputs from both, thank you. You're right, it's probably best to just have it retuned.

I moved to Maryland from Utah...got a new tune at $1000. Getting another one is appropriate, just hate the cost associated unfortunately.

It's an awesome build and is killer on the street. Last dyno was 605 to the wheels. 68 Chevelle 300 had a 2 speed powerglide and 327. Pulled all the guts and dropped the LS2 with T56 and 12 bolt rear main.

$1000 seems steep for a dynotune. There are a couple excellent guys/shops in my area (Northern Alabama) that are considerably less. More like $500.

I could see $1000 if starting from scratch with a new build that's all custom. But you already have it all squared away - just wanna swap heads. Sure, the VE tables are going to need to be adjusted, but it's not like the entire calibration needs to be reworked.
