Default Suggested Ring End Gap Naturally Asperated 416 L92???

I am running the Total Seal Rings that came with my Diamond Pistons. I checked Total Seals sight and it says for the top ring bore (4.065) x .0045 and for the second ring bore (4.065) x .0035 which gives me .018 for the top and .014 for the 2nd ring. It that right? Does it seem a little tight? I am running NA and do not plan on any Nitrous.

Thanks
Mark

That looks correct for a N/A application. You may also want to consult Diamond as piston design also has an impact on ring gap.

That is right per then instructions. Gaps will increase slightly with heat&break in.

you might want to switch the gaps around though. i would go .014" on the top and .018" on the second.

Here is a chart, with different ring gaps for different applications, from Wiseco's website.

.014" is too tight on the top ring, use the formula to calculate the top ring gap as normal and the 2nd gap should be at least .002" larger than the top ring gap. Use the Wiseco chart or get the chart from Diamond; they are similar for guidelines.

Which Total Seal rings? Conventional, top gapless, 2nd gapless????

Here are Total Seals recommendations, which coincide with your thoughts above.

You typically don't want the 2nd ring tighter than the top. Opening up the 2nd ring gap helps with ring flutter.

I have conventional rings. Standard top ring with the napier profile as the second. I emailed Diamond and they said to go by Total Seals recommendations...

Go with Total Seal's rec,we have tried ring gaps from tighter to looser that their rec as well as the 2nd tighter and looser than the top-all resulted in very little hp change,i usually take the rec gap and add .001,better to be a little loose than too tight.
