LS2 into my 99 Z28....opinions needed
I have access to a 10K mile 2005 GTO LS2 engine, complete from intake to pan. My initial plans with the LS2 was to sell the 243s, the intake/TB assembly and the cam off of it and go with a set of L92s, a LS3 intake and a custom grind cam for it. But after seeing what some guys are getting HP-wise out of their stock 243 headed LS2s with a FAST intake and custom grind cam should I just keep the 243s on it and go that route or will it make significantly more HP with the L92/LS3 setup?

I'm going to sell the 243s, intake, TB, and cam from my LS2 and replace them with ported L92s, LS3 intake, 90mm Edelbrock TB, and a custom ground cam from Comp Cams....I'm hoping to make 450-475hp at the tires.

Watch your PTV with the L92 heads on the 6.0L short-block. Unless you are flycutting pistons, you are going to be limited on your cam size. Right around the 230* duration mark is going to be your limit depending on lobe profile. Also, remember the L92 heads have a bigger combustion chamber than the 243's you are pulling off. You will probably want to mill some off to get some of the compression back. Just a few things to think about.
Let us know if you decide to go with a CNC ported set of heads. We have CNC'd L92 heads available as well as 243 heads if you change your mind. We have aftermarket casting heads available as well. We can also set you up with cam advice as well! Let us know if we can help!

As for the L92s, I've already had them milled because of what you said.

I made 480 @ 6650 (where the dyno run was shut down) with a completely stock long block, bolt-ons, and a mid-sized cam. Even better, my average torque was 407, and peaked at 453 @ 4800. I imagine that with a bigger set of headers and turning it to 7000, it would put down almost 500. I would stay with the 243's and save yourself some money.
